Emerging from a small city in Mexico, Alexis B has skyrocketed from a virtual unknown to becoming one of the top artists to watch at the moment. While his music spans a wide array of genres it’s his most recent work in the UKG and 140 realms that have really caught our ear. From massive bootlegs to multiple killer collabs with FUXWITHIT favourite borne, and a slew of his own heaters, Alexis B is on a tear. We highlighted his talent just a few months back but we were so impressed we had to get him to bless us with a guest mix + interview.

Whether you’re a longtime fan, a recent follower, or completely unsure of who Alexis B is, this mix is an absolute must-listen. It’s the type of masterful showcase that can turn you into an instant fan. Don’t believe me? Just press play. While you’re at it be sure to check out our interview where we discuss his affinity for garage, relationship with borne, distance from social media, what’s on the horizon, and much more.

What can we expect from the mix? Where are we going when we press play?

With this mix I intended to showcase some IDs from my friends and myself. I also included some tracks that I have previously released, as well as some songs that I currently enjoy playing.

Where are you based in Mexico? What’s it like there?

I’m from Irapuato! The city is small, and in recent years, the summers have been so hot. I’d say it’s not the best city for going out and finding distractions since there aren’t many things to do, but I really enjoy having my family and closest friends here!

Does where you live influence your music at all? If not, what does?

Actually, where I live doesn’t directly influence my music. Instead, my inspiration comes from personal experiences and exploring various musical genres that I’m passionate about. I also draw a lot of inspiration from other artists and producers. I’m deeply inspired by the process of learning how other producers create their music and delving into why they do what they do—it’s something I find myself obsessing over quite often.

I first came upon your music through your collaboration ‘Don’t Go’ with borne. You guys just dropped another monster banger in ‘Hush.’ How did you first link up? What makes the chemistry so good between you?

borne and I met on Discord four years ago when he invited me to a server he had created, which was full of talented producers. That’s where I also met my friends Arya and Lynzz. Since then, we’ve built a strong friendship, spending time on Discord calls, producing songs, playing video games, or just chilling. I believe the trust we have and the time we spend together brainstorming ideas are the main reasons we collaborate so well. We can have a lot of fun and work until we find a really cool idea when we’re collaborating.

You’ve been making a lot of Garage in the past few years. What attracted you to the genre? What do you enjoy about producing it?

This genre started to really attract me thanks to my friend Carlos Álvarez, also known as Neluh, who introduced me to UK genres and artists. Carlos studied music production in London, which gave him a deep connection with the music culture there. Of all the genres he showed me, UK Garage was the one I liked the most. What I enjoy most about UK Garage is the ability to create different groovy rhythmic patterns, which makes it very interesting and fun for me!

Your bio lists you as a “Multi – Genre Producer” do you still feel that holds true?

Although I’m currently heavily focused on genres like UK Garage and UK Dubstep, I’ve always enjoyed exploring different genres throughout my career as a producer. This diversity has significantly helped my understanding of music production in recent years. In my artistic journey, I would love to achieve a level similar to producers like Four Tet or James Blake, where I have the freedom to create, release, and perform songs across any genre, from ambient tracks to dubstep.

You’re pretty quiet on social media. This seems like a stark contrast to most artists these days sharing content multiple times a day. Is there a conscious reason behind this approach?

Yeah, I think the reason is that I consider myself an introverted person and rarely feel comfortable posting on social media or sharing aspects of my life. However, I understand that for my music project and career, social media is an essential tool. It allows me to share my music, connect with my audience, and reach new people. That’s why I keep working on overcoming that mental barrier and trying to post more content focused on my music and creative process.

How do you enjoy spending your time when you’re not making music?

When I’m not making music, I enjoy playing online video games, hanging out with my friends and spending time with my family. It really makes me happy and motivates me to create more music when I’m coming back in the studio.

What have you been listening to lately?

Lately, I’ve been really into Hailey Knox’s new EP. I discovered her recently and I’m totally in love with her music and voice! Also, I’ve been listening to the Villager’s EP ‘Sculptor’ and the album ‘Cherry’ from Daphni which have been a big inspiration for me recently while working on new songs.

What’s on the horizon for you for the rest of the year?

I’m focused on releasing more music, from originals to remixes, and exploring new sounds to expand my creative palette. I’m also looking forward to connecting more with my audience through live performances and social media, and continuing to grow as an artist!

Any final words?

Yeah, I would like to thank everyone who has supported my music lately. It’s really nice to know that there are people who enjoy what you do, and I’m very grateful for that! Also, thank you FUXWITHIT for giving me a platform where I can talk and open up more about my project! I hope you all enjoyed the mix and I love you all! <3

bauti

Little is known about bauti. The artist hails from Buenos Aires, Argentina. His SoundCloud bio simply reads “17”, which I presume is his age. And he burst onto the scene at the start of the year with one of the biggest debuts I can remember in a long time. ‘check’ landed in my SoundCloud feed with a simple but impactful artwork and a short lowercase name I’d never heard of. When I pressed play, I was immediately captivated. The single-word namesake vocal is hypnotizing and as the deep bass, ominous soundscapes, and snappy drums hit I was hooked. That was even before we got into the real drop (it just keeps getting better). The track has been steadily gaining ground, landing in Spotify’s coveted Trap Mojito playlist, and was a must-include when I put together my recent guest mix for HeardItHereFirst.

Proving the first track was no fluke, last month bauti followed it up with ‘ONFIRE’ a fittingly titled torcher alongside alti. The track possesses a similarly dark and dirty aesthetic while taking things deeper. If you’re still not fully convinced bauti is one of the key artists to watch for 2024, peep the ‘SHOWCASE 2K24‘ mix he put out and try to doubt me. bauti is truly just getting started.

Hoax

When you see big players such as Hospital Records betting hard on a new artist, you know you’re in for a treat. That’s why I feel I don’t deserve much credit for this month’s pick, but at least I hope I’m doing my part by putting Hoax on your radar. Class of ’00, based in Bristol, Hoax has a history of releases on imprints including Onyx, Pick ‘N’ Mix, and Wub Club before joining the Hospital family back in April. He’s no stranger to delivering dancefloor weapons as proven by the success of his 2022 single ‘Crowd Control’, but with his latest two releases, he flaunted the realm of possibilities of his sound. Rumbling basslines and immaculately crisp productions are the main ingredients that Hoax smartly mixes in ‘Sparkly’ and ‘Outlaw’, in the latter case in tandem with an infectious vocal flow provided by Degs. It’s a fresh sound that will delight the ears of those who are into the new-gen drum&bass movement. Also, don’t forget to check his SoundCloud page for some extra flips and dubs.

With the wave environment continuing to rise and obtain strength from listeners around the world, artists such as rivoices are pushing the movement with grace and passion. Serenading us with crisp, organic, and magnificent tones. Taking your breath away with every given moment, making you feel like you’re truly floating through an unknown space. The amount of detail and careful placement of each element in his works is simply remarkable. As if you were transported into a Denis Villeneuve film making you the main character of his next big picture.

One of his recent pieces, ‘damaged’ is a gritty, dark, and euphoric adventure. The space being filled with such character and emotion will leave tears in your eyes. The drums, melodic structure, and slow-paced rhythm will completely hypnotize your spirit like never before. And incorporating that vocal just gives the tune even more swing, aura, and attitude! You can listen to this one over and over again for hours on end.

His newest track is a collaboration between himself and almogfx! Another fantastic musician who has some serious talent in their own right. This one will immediately send shivers down your spine and make you shut down in the best ways. The gorgeous yet haunting environment wraps you in a blanket of protection and perseverance. It’s an everlasting feeling you won’t ever want to let go of due to its sheer raw power. Both artists complement each other beautifully. And tying it all together with such a soft and angelic vocal really gives it body and another layer of purpose. Breathtaking beyond belief. The wave scene is constantly improving and evolving with every given moment, and thanks to artists such as rivoices, it’ll go even farther than ever.

TESSERACTS first landed on my radar with ‘Way Back,’ a minimal yet grungy collaboration alongside Ankou released via Inspected last summer. As an avid follower of Ankou, I figured any fellow collaborator would be worth keeping an eye on, and since then the Polish duo have impressed with the quality and diversity of their releases. From foundation-shattering halftime, to electric complextro, to high-octane drum and bass, TESSERACTS continue to showcase agility in their productions and certainly deserve a broader audience. More recently, the duo unveiled yet another of their multiple facets with ‘Injure Them’ via Inspected. In the track, the duo tapped Gravity for a hip-hop/grime leaning cut that showcase their ability to highlight vocals over an exhilarating beat. The beat is riddled with bass and carries dynamic swagger throughout, but it’s the contrast with Gravity’s smooth vocals that really make this track a standout. With just over 2k followers on SoundCloud, it’s about time more people started watching out for TESSERACTS.

Sometimes all it takes to stumble upon good music is seeing a goofy picture and clicking on it. As a guy who has a soft spot for raccoons, I had to satisfy my curiosity when I saw tchonga‘s profile appear in my sidebar. Boy, I didn’t know what I was in for. This Brazillian-based producer quickly found his way into a half dozen of my playlists immediately. Every track I’ve heard exudes an ambitious level of production. The coarse synths and crisp drums all throughout his discography make for some exceptionally clean production that makes me feel like I need a shower after listening.

My first introduction was the track ‘better place,’ a Billie Eilish edit with wildly experimental beat structures and exuberant bounce. I thought I was in for a future beats journey here as the tracks kept playing, and then ‘Disruptor’ hit me like a truck moving at 174 mph. This one is a pure drum and bass stinker and cemented this man’s place in my library. ‘Jinn’ comes out the gate sounding like an Arabian trap anthem with some of the most ear-tickling drum patterns I’ve heard in a while. Tracks like ‘invictus,’ meanwhile, would fit right in on an episode of The Future Beats Show or Soulection. The instrumentation really captures the essence of the old SoundCloud beat producer wave, a la Sam Gellaitry or Medasin in their early years.

The fact that this producer is sitting under one thousand followers on SoundCloud right now feels criminal. I’m no stranger to being stunned at the latent talent hiding out on the Internet, but holy hell tchonga, you’re built different. I can’t wait to hear whatever it is you’re cooking up next.
Focus Five Volume 71 sees us showcasing a multi-genre Mexican producer, an Indian bass master, a duo delivering a dose of summer grooves, a sound design destroyer, and a Kiwi producer with some stellar UK sounds.
Alexis B

Alexis B is a Mexican producer who has been setting SoundCloud ablaze with a multitude of firey UKG and DnB cuts. My first exposure to the artist came when listening to borne’s exceptional Deep End EP. ‘Don’t Go’ sees Alexis B joining borne for an absolutely beautiful garage anthem. The combination of emotive vocals, masterful vocal chops, stirring keys, and booming bass with stripped-back drops is nothing short of exceptional. Proving his skills on the solo side, the artist has been unleashing a barrage of incredible bootlegs and flips including ‘ Don’t Phone Me,’ ‘Too Much Sauce,’ and ‘TODO.’ If you’re in the mood for dark and moody cuts that’ll get you moving Alexis B is an absolute must-listen.

Baajewala

It’s been a little over five years since FUXWTHIT’s last mention of Baajewala, so I’d say now’s as good a time as ever to shine the spotlight back on this monster of a producer. Hailing from Betul, India, Baajewala’s tunes exude an eclectic mix of influences ranging from Bollywood bangers to American dubstep and everything in between. This is the kind of gritty, granulated bass that arrests your ears’ attention away before you even realize what’s happening. The rhythmically undulating basslines, combined with Bollywood vocal samples and traditional instrumentation like the sitar and tabla, make for some emphatically groovy beats that make it hard to sit still.

I recently stumbled upon his TOKEN EP and was positively blown away the second the first drop hit on ‘BOSSMODE.’ There’s something about the minimalism of a flute sample over 808s that drives me crazy in the best way. On the other end of the spectrum are more dub-heavy tracks with bouncier drum patterns like ‘AAO BABU,’ released only a few days ago as part of LoFreq Records Cypher Vol. 5. I sincerely hope the sound that Baajewala and others have been so carefully curating in India continues to make its way overseas. Presently, it feels like there is so much music out there in the world, that it’s become increasingly more difficult for anyone to create a standout, unique sound. Everything is derivative to some degree. Yet, here are these producers in India experimenting with sound design in a way that reminds me of the early days of trap music here in the States, and that’s really refreshing to hear. Big ups to Baajewala, can’t wait to see where the future takes you.

Spring is going full speed in the northern hemisphere, preparing the ground for the advent of another summer. Nature has awakened, as have our biorhythms. Our bodies quiver and the ancestral rhythms that nestle within us have resumed their primordial dance. So what could be better than a good dose of groove to tune with this rite of passage? canary yellow‘s music is the perfect match. I got to know this producer duo thanks to the good people at Tabula Rasa and since then they soundtracked all my early morning walks. Their glossier and progressive-oriented interpretation of garage (which evolved from their initial deep house releases) is the ideal point of contact between the overdrive of the traditional UKG sound and the softness of many of the deep house producers I follow. Within their discography, you can find some bangers too, but canary yellow’s creativity shines bright when vocal chops and psychedelic arpeggios roam free over broken rhythms and crispy drum patterns. Close your eyes, press play, and get ready to fly high with canary yellow.

Shattering barriers of sound with swift and relentless powers of mass destruction, JPKy has been delivering some of the craziest electronic music. One after another, each of his tracks will make your mind explode while being transported into the earth’s core, exploring unexplained forces that will take over your soul with each second. Comprised of different unique qualities and impressing many to the highest degree. His sound design is unmatched, setting nothing but a beautiful example for many upcoming musicians. From remixes of nvadrz, Knock2, Tisoki, and more, to unleashing energetic singles to match the rest, you do not want to miss out on anything this artist is cooking. He’s even released two full mixes of unreleased music that completely show his diverse range! He’s next up.

His remix of Charli XCX is a deadly and uncontainable force of nature. From a fun and sporadic club environment to that heavy bass lead within the chorus, it’ll leave you with a pure smile on your face while desiring more and more. Not to mention those drums are truly well chosen and fit perfectly with the overall structure. His newest remix for KLAXX’s, ‘getup’ via MONTA highlights some of the best techniques and raw organic power JPKy has up his sleeve. He completely honored the original’s vision while making it his own. Adding a flare you’ll find only from the artist. The movement and pacing of this one really makes you want to hear this one live on large loud speakers. One thing is for certain, things have only just begun for the young artist. And we have the utmost confidence that he’ll be continuing to explore new realms while creating electronic music you won’t forget. Making the underground proud.

munro, formerly known as Ian Munro, recently put out a reel highlighting local Kiwi talent in honour of New Zealand Music Month. While the shoutout was brief and the snippet was short, his mention of Severus instantly caught my attention, and I knew I had to learn more about the artist. Originally from New Zealand and now based in Australia, the Severus project appears to have been born in early 2022. Since then, the releases have been somewhat scarce, but the three tracks that are out are enough to prompt readers to keep an eye out for the artist. ‘Break My Heart,’ the track munro featured in his reel, was my first introduction to Severus, and gave me a feel for the insanely catchy UK grooves that the producer is able to create. The layering of smooth samples above an emotive garage-leaning beat was enough to get me hooked. Diving into his other two tracks revealed a knack for concocting hypnotizing drum and bass rhythms. While unexpected, it was a pleasant surprise to come across an artist with such a varied sound palette despite the minimal discography. Let’s hope there’s more to come soon!

OTHERWRLD has become a major empire within the underground. Their goal of showcasing up-and-coming artists to help conquer realms has succeeded greatly. Each release of theirs has done nothing but impress listeners from all over. Paving a major road of gold for themselves as well as their artists. Making them a name you won’t ever forget. To celebrate their one-year anniversary of success, they’ve just released their newest compilation, OUTBREAK 003. An exciting sixteen-track ride of the century. Comprised of some of the craziest and most talented musicians in electronic music right now!

Their first two compilations have exceeded great expectations with the colorful and diverse sounds of the future. And this newest one does not fail to achieve the same goal. Brand-new artists such as ryscu, SPORTMODE, Lynzz and many more have created individual works of pure mayhem. Each harnessing an energy different from the last while honoring the OTHERWRLD name in all its glory. From electronic trap, breakbeat, and even a touch of wave and house, this experience is just filled with ear-pleasing tones and rhythmic structures. Showing yet again why this label and movement is truly untouchable in vision and execution. Making this their most diverse and powerful group of tunes yet! So make sure to show your support by streaming OUTBREAK 003 everywhere via OTHERWRLD! We’re excited to hear more in the future.
