While Rome in Silver is hot off of his lighthearted, feels-inducing Like Lightning EP, Bonnema has been lurking in the shadows, nonchalantly releasing consistent heat in the depths of the underground and working on perfecting his eclectic sound. In their ‘Clint Eastwood’ remix that we are ecstatic to be premiering, the two producers stay true to the essence of the original through the use of the oh-so familiar chorus in the introduction, but revamp the instrumentals to give it an ominous late-night grunge. The 100 BPM heater quickly builds to a bass-laden drop highlighted by crisp sound design, pristine percussion and an oddly soothing hum, giving midtempo a refreshing touch in an over-saturated market. The second half of the remix is just as enthralling, with added liveliness and dynamism contributing to the punchy piece.

“I’ve been really messing with high contrast shit lately, and since Bonnema and I write mostly high energy shit, when Bonnema threw in that sample in the intro, I decided we should totally make it go back n forth between that and our sounds for a really interesting juxtaposition,” Saka tells us. It’s that juxtaposition and high energy approach that make ‘Elevators’ one of the most interesting songs you’ll likely hear this year.

Oh and you know we had to ask them about that incredible Tony Hawk Pro Skater inspired artwork. “The idea was brought up by Joey, my manager and the artwork was done by Viktor Kadic. “We wanted to take this project to the wilderness and supernatural setting. Shit sounds like Bigfoot,” Bonnema tells us. The two manage to pull this off with perfection. ‘Bigfoot’ brings listeners into an ancient forest with towering trees as the full moon peaks through the vast canopy. The deep bass and mystical groove will put you under a spell as you wander through the beautiful yet foreboding woodland. Tribal chants in the distance pull you in as you trek deeper and deeper. Before you know it, you wonder into a dark cave and awaken Bigfoot. The heavy bass is your heart-pounding as you stare down the mystical beast. Just when you think things can’t get anymore intense a chase ensues and you’re running for your life as drum and bass soundtracks the scene. With the bass stripped away you finally start to feel safe as ‘Bigfoot’ drifts away.
