For years, Good Society‘s power has touched many’s hearts throughout the underground. From a beautiful roster of artists to its own purpose and vision, it’s a label you’ll always find yourself coming back to. Waiting with pure excitement to hear what’s next or who they’re lending the spotlight to. Their whimsical releases from absolute legends as well as their gorgeous artworks have shaped their name into a remarkable staple for music. And with Good Society Vol. 3, they’re pushing the future beat genre even further than ever. Making you fall in love with the genre as well as the artists featured all over again. Taking you back to the roots while showcasing the future.

Bringing organic soul and grooves to the scene, these compilations have pushed sonic boundaries while tendering to the broken and lost. Creating a space you’ll always feel welcome in. The calm and peaceful compositions within will only fill your aura with purpose and happiness. And what a stacked lineup they got this year! Heavy hitters such as laxcity, DECAP, oshi, capshun, Chromonicci, whereisalex, and more have all molded individual stories through sound. Showcasing their strongest techniques while honoring the label with pure style.

“I curated this project to affirm the belonging of hip-hop & electronic music in a single space. Otherwise known as future beats, this project brings together soulful and jazzy boom bap production riddled with soulful rap vocals and electronic sound design. The subgenre was greatly inspired and developed by the likes of Flying Lotus, Mr. Carmack, and quite a few of the artists featured on this project including Oshi, Lophiile, DECAP, whereisalex, & ROMderful. It was no easy undertaking bringing together these staples of the producer world, but over the past year, I’ve been lucky enough to have everyone place their faith in me. After over two years since the last issue, Good Society Volume 3 is our version of the ultimate genre fluid hip-hop album.” – Josh Yamini

Good Society Vol. 3 is an absolute pleasure to experience from beginning to end. The twelve track journey is filled with ear candy and inspiring characteristics. From moments of absolute clarity, to unreal techniques from the artists themselves, it’s a gift that keeps on giving. The drums, melodies and overall arrangements shines on a whole new level. Making you feel completely relaxed and content with your mindset. From laxcity’s bubbly sound design and rhythms, to oshi’s elegant vocals complimenting his hard hitting production, these artists truly went all out and created life long art to last throughout the ages. Representing history as well as giving their audience a taste for what’s to come on the horizon. Bringing warm light among the darkness. So make sure to show your support by streaming Good Society Vol. 3 everywhere via Good Society!

Few artists have been as instrumental as DECAP in shaping the sound of music over the past few years. His Drums That Knock sample packs have become something of legend, raking in millions of downloads and finding their way into tracks from your favourite underground artists as well as megahits from Kendrick Lamar, Kanye West, Travis Scott, Jay-Z, and Eminem. His productions have gone Platinum and hit Billboard Top 10, all while he’s carved out a new sound with originals in Future Knock; a bouncy mix of hip hop and electronic sounds. Never one to stagnate he’s also recently launched Plugins That Knock and has been delivering a wealth of knowledge on his social media and streams. We’ve been working to connect with the legend for quite some time and today we are pleased to present DECAP’s Guest Mix + Interview.

The mix is a vibe that’s primed for the summer, perfectly fusing SoundCloud gems with bigger hits. The interview explores what it’s like helping shape the sound of the future, his new creative retreat, his greatest achievements to date, the importance of health, and much more. Check both below.

Tell us about the mix. What was your goal when putting it together?

It’s a bunch of songs that I like right now. My goal was to make the mix so you can just push play and enjoy the ride. There’s a lot of variety in here.

You recently moved into a creative retreat surrounded by trees with its own waterfall. What impact do your surroundings have on your creative output? How has the new space influenced your work?

It’s way more relaxing. I’ve been living in the heart of San Francisco for the last decade, so to have my workspace in nature is refreshing. I feel more creatively inspired.

What’s the secret to making Beats That Knock?

The drums are everything… I made Drums That Knock for producers that want those sounds that hit you right in the middle of your chest. I also released a plugin for producers called KNOCK that producers can use on their drum bus to get everything sounding punchy. Another big part of the Future Knock / Beats That Knock formula is to get the bounce sounding right. I love it when I hear tracks with a dope / unique bounce.

Your sample packs have been featured in some of the biggest hits out. What’s the most surprising place you’ve heard your samples pop up?

I remember the first time I heard my shout from Drums That Knock used on a big record back in 2017 on Niall Horan’s ‘Slow Hands’ song.. it caught me off guard. Since then, DTK has been on tons of amazing records by Kendrick Lamar, Kanye West, Travis Scott, Eminem, etc.

I really just set out to make the sounds that inspired me to produce. It was trippy to watch these sounds influence the sound of the culture.

How does it feel to be shaping the sound of music through your samples?

It’s wild when I take a step back and look at it. I really just set out to make the sounds that inspired me to produce. It was trippy to watch these sounds influence the sound of the culture. I’m honored and inspired by it.

What do you view as your biggest accomplishment to date?

I’ve had the Billboard, gold, platinum records, and all that, but my biggest accomplishment to date is finding my center, and finding happiness and self-love. Without that, all the worldly accomplishments really mean nothing.

Chill vibes or bangers?

Both for sure. It depends on the moment. Don’t sleep on chill bangers. ;)

When my mind is clear, my life is in balance.

Focusing on health seems to be a core foundation for you. What are the pillars to good health in your life? How do ensure you stick to them?

I’m a proponent of self-reflection and meditation, or whatever it takes to align each day. When my mind is clear, my life is in balance. I try to start my day with a meditation to re-center and get clear about my direction, and balance my life. For me, a good night’s sleep and healthy eating are important too.

If you could have any superpower what would it be?

I would relocate my body anywhere, any time, immediately at will… airports are a drag

What’s the last song you listened to 10x in a row? What made you bump it on repeat?

Kendrick Lamar ft. Kodak Black – Silent Hill … it’s such a banger.

What’s next for you in terms of releases?

Lately I’ve been working on a lot of new sounds and music. I’ve also been coming up with new concepts of plugins. Follow on IG and YouTube for updates when things are dropping

Father of future knock, DECAP, and appropriately named Gyrefunk dropped a funky remix of iyla’s ‘Juice’ and once you get your ears on this, you won’t be able to stop grooving. The former captioned the song on Soundcloud with a simple, “twitch fam convinced me to drop this.” So we can confidently say that streams are definitely one of the better things that have come out of this quarantine.

Funk and R&B are a match made in heaven, but when you add DECAP’s signature hard-hitting drums and Gyrefunk’s jazzy synths, it only adds to the bounce. iyla’s original version isn’t any less fun and sexy, though. Reminiscent of 90s R&B, the song’s silly, simplistic lyrics and playful melody create a sweet summertime ambiance. DECAP & Gyrefunk’s remix capitalizes on that feeling and reworks it into a more club-friendly track for girls who are ready to break some hearts.

Billboard top 10 producer and founder of Drums That Knock Nicholas Piantedosi aka DECAP is a God among men when it comes to his production abilities. He is able to build percussion in a way that not many others are able to replicate. However, with the sample packs he provides, it opens up the realm of possibilities for everyone. Aside from his original releases Piantedasi is also known for producing for a variety of artists such as Joyner Lucas, Smoke-DZA, Royce da 5’9″ and so many more. With his recent release of a new sample pack, Drums That Knock Vol. 9, comes the release of a new single ‘Panther’.

Upon first listen I thought my headphones had broke due to the gnarly panning that the intro utilizes. About five seconds in you can hear the signature tag “KNOCK” that is immediately followed by a deep 808. The melodic flute like sound weaves through the percussive elements with ease. Everything you hear is made from scratch with a lot of the samples used being processed through different analog systems such as the Studer and an EMU SP12. This pack is available for purchase on drumsthatknock.com along with his previous packs. Listen to ‘Panther’ below and grab the samples to see what you are capable of. Like the track but don’t want to buy the pack? Grab that free download here.

Future Knock architect DECAP is back with a 3 track EP full of slaps. 123 sees the producer collaborating with a different artist on each song and the results are expectedly awesome. Connecting with FUXWITHIT favourite Golden Child on ‘1NE,’ the two cook up a no-nonsense heater. The “what you wanna do” vocal combined with the snapping percussion and booming bass has this one puffing its chest out, looking for anyone who wants to test it. ‘2WO’ alongside Oh Gosh Leotus slows things down with hauntingly bent vocals. Don’t get it twisted though, this one definitely still brings the knock. Rounding things out is ‘3HREE’ with The Kount. The track hits while retaining a pensive reflective feel that provides the perfect conclusion.

123 yet again proves that DECAP’s talent continues to expand while also shining a light on the three talented collaborators.

It’s not often that an artist comes around who is always comfortable trying new things and cannot be held within the confines of genres, and Decap truly embodies those characteristics. The San Fransisco based artist pulls elements from a variety of genres to including pop, hip hop, and electronic music to create his own musical space and genre know as “future knock.” He has produced for some of the biggest names in the rap game including Nipsey Hussle and Talib Kweli. Disregard his collaborations and you’re still left with an impressive discography full of innovative production. On ‘Which Planet Are You From,’ Decap teams up with New York’s own JNTHN STEIN, whose heavy jazz and hip hop influences really complement Decap’s future knock style.

The introduction to the track showcases a jazzy guitar riff immediately leading into a classic 808 driven future knock beat aided by spacey percussion elements that leave the listener floating in low-earth orbit. The guitar riff returns periodically giving us a jazz-driven breakdown. JNTHN STEIN’s wordplay and cadence animates an already high-energy track through this spacey beat. The variety of musical influences that go into this track manifest themselves into another future knock banger. Make sure to check this one below and grab your FREE DOWNLOAD.
