FRQ NCY knows just how to tap into your souls and hearts. With crisp production, a beautiful vision, and a wonderful persona, you can easily sense real passion and adoration for music as a whole through his work. He taps into unknown realms and brings back nothing but unique qualities to share with his listeners. And now, with his newest Bloom EP, he’s turning back the wheels of time while combining his current futuristic skills to create yet another timeless work of art, ready to fill your body with chills and positivity.

A pure wave of evolution mixed with honorable nods to his past will leave you speechless, as it tells a complete story of growth and understanding through captivating melodies and gritty sound design. Perfect for those big stages, but also just as intoxicating when listening on your own time. The EP makes you always want to come back to capture the same essence and emotion, never wanting the energy to stop. Comprised of three tracks, there are a ton of new surprises and powerful qualities leaving the audience in awe that shines even in such a dark and destructive setting. It teaches us that there’s always a bright light to bring out a better tomorrow.

“I see Bloom as the aftermath of Gems, or an extension. I wanted to make something simple yet relatable on an emotional level for those that listen to this EP; perhaps a feeling of growth, and an unspoken understanding of what the music is trying to relay.”FRQ NCY

The Bloom EP is such a breath of fresh air for the underground. Not only does he expand on different sounds and rhythms, but he also creates them in such a fashionable and familiar way, making listeners feel truly immersed and comfortable in his own world. Every track flows together in such a fluid and organic way. Nothing feels out of place. And the project pays real homage to his whole artistic journey, making you feel as if you were flying through a realm of self-reflection and discovery. From a peaceful bass-induced wonderland to a change of speed with a groovy house space, there’s no telling what you’ll experience next.

Atlanta-based producer FRQ NCY has been known to grace the FUXWITHIT site frequently. First landing on our radar with a premiere back in 2018, FRQ NCY has been nothing but consistent in his releases. From EPs on Bassrush and SATURATE, to impressive singles and flips, FRQ NCY has proceeded to evolve and expand his sound with each passing year. With his upcoming Gems EP dropping next week, we had the pleasure of debuting ‘Appearances’ just a few days ago. Today we give an even deeper look into what’s to come from FRQ NCY with his guest mix + interview. This mix is jam-packed with IDs and tracks from FUXWITHIT favourites. As for the interview, we discuss his new creative direction, the upcoming project, what makes NFTs so exciting, and much more. Listen to the mix and read the interview below.

Where are you taking listeners with this mix?

For this mix I wanted to share my most recent tracks and ideas with everyone. I’ve had so much inspiration recently and this mix embodies a lot of that inspiration!

How has this year been treating you?

Lots of ups and downs but focusing on the ups! Lots of creativity, ideas, and opportunities. It’s been odd adjusting to playing shows again and getting into the flow of everything, but I love it and I’m ready to bounce back into the mix of things.

In reality there’s a lot of outside influences that determine what someone decides to create. When you take out that influence, what are you left with? For me it was Gems!

Gems marks a new evolution in your sound. What brought you here?

Quarantine brought me here hahaha. There was a lot of time to think about what really made me happy in regards to creating music. In reality there’s a lot of outside influences that determine what someone decides to create. When you take out that influence, what are you left with? For me it was Gems!

What is the significance of the project’s title?

It goes back to finding some honesty in myself while creating music. While thinking of a name, Gems felt right because of how vulnerable I felt at the thought of releasing it. It’s “pure” in a way which is really beautiful.

What was the writing process like for the project? How did it differ from your previous work?

It was effortless in a lot of ways. I found a vibe that I really enjoyed and kept running it until I felt that I expressed that feeling. There were a lot of sampling and melody driven ideas with this project, which wasn’t so much the case in my previous work. Still some bass moments but a lot less!

Should fans expect future releases to follow a similar direction?

Yes and no! I have a bunch of music that I’m currently sorting out. Overall I’ve kept a lot of the melodic aspects with my most recent tracks and they definitely hold a similar feeling in that way. Some heavier, some a lot more laid back… And house music? And riddim? WHO KNOWS.

Artists shouldn’t be confined to platforms that decide the creators’ worth based on plays, and releasing NFTs are a leeway into recreating this broken system we’ve had to stay under for so long. Why should my art be valued strictly off plays and then have that platform decide the value of those plays?

You’re going to be pairing the release with an NFT drop. What excites you about the NFT space? Why should fans want to collect your NFT? What will it include?

Love this question. In my opinion audio NFTs are the future of music for many reasons. Artists shouldn’t be confined to platforms that decide the creators’ worth based on plays, and releasing NFTs are a leeway into recreating this broken system we’ve had to stay under for so long. Why should my art be valued strictly off plays and then have that platform decide the value of those plays? Selling audio NFTs is a new and exciting way to get people invested into collections of art, pay what they want, have something unique, unlock extra content and perks, and support their favorite artists (shoutout Catalog). I could go more in-depth but this would turn into a very long interview haha. For my NFT release we’ll be adding something unique for listeners that have supported me in the past and the Gems release which is exciting.

What’s it been like working with the Electric Hawk team so far? What makes them special?

The Electric Hawk team has been great. I’ve never met so many talented and driven individuals on one team. Very very VERY big shout out to my manager Hunter. This release has been in the works for a long time (about 6 months) and having her help with every little detail has been a blessing. I would have been lost with releasing this EP without her and the EH team.

On that note – also shoutout to Tate and Arielle. True inspirations in the industry and have helped me so much with the release and music-related-activities.

What was your reaction when you saw someone got a FRQ NCY tattoo? How does it feel to be a fixture on someone’s body?

Hahaha so that’s one of my best friends Mars and more recently a roommate. It’s pretty funny how I figured it out. Apparently he had this tattoo done for 3 months prior to when I noticed it – one day I went over to his apartment and as we were playing chess, I dropped a piece of the floor. As I reached for the piece he stuck his leg out and that’s when I noticed. I thought it was fake for a good 5 minutes… MIND WAS BLOWN. He’s a highschool teacher and gets asked about it sometimes.

What do you enjoy most outside of music?

Rock climbing is probably my favorite activity outside music but I haven’t had too much time for it recently. Other than that just being with friends and hanging out when I can!

Having connections where we truly care for one another and the goals we want to obtain become in reach because of it… Profound.

What’s the last thing that had a profound impact on your life?

Surrounding myself with like-minded individuals has had the biggest impact on my life and music. Having connections where we truly care for one another and the goals we want to obtain become in reach because of it… Profound.

What’s next for you?

More music, more releases, and hopefully more shows in the near-future. We’re just getting started and I’m excited as hell to start showing people what’s been going on.

FRQ NCY has been a memorable name throughout the underground. His massive discography of filthy sound design and groundbreaking bass music in general has led him down a gorgeous path. Stopping at nothing from constantly evolving his style and vision as an icon. Time and time again, he’s proven to be one of the best and intricate artists in this scene. From killer self-releases, to partnering up with major labels such as The Pound, Bassrush, Electric Hawk and more, he’s always showcasing his latest and the greatest within each piece. But now, it’s time for a brand new chapter from this long-lasting artist.

Debuting a brand new side to his project, we are honored to premiere his newest single, ‘Appearances.’ Straight off his upcoming EP, GEMS set to release very soon! A complete change of scenery within the spectrum while still holding his signature touch. A very challenging task to accomplish. But he pulls it off with such grace. The single isn’t just a new step for him, it’s a complete showcase of how much he’s evolved as a musician as well as a human being. Proving how you always gotta try and take that leap of faith for yourself. Bringing in a new kind of relation and happiness to his audience. Letting all of us know he’s far from giving up on his golden dreams. And how he’s ready to bring in something brand new and extravagant for himself and his listeners.

I started ‘Appearances’ with the thought of creating something unique using vocal samples. It really feels like the vocal chops are the focal point of this track because of how they’re looped in from the intro. This sparked a lot of creativity for future tracks that I’ve made, not only for this EP but even recent tracks. – FRQ NCY

‘Appearances’ is a blast of soothing aromas in the form of sound. Captivating any crowd no matter how big or small. Bringing a large amount of emotions and tears swirling around your aura. This is truly a gorgeous new atmosphere for the musician. Showcasing how his professional and flexible skills can take him anywhere.

Right from the beginning, we hear a filtered-out melody and space, with shakers sounding like a garden coming into full bloom. Filled with distinct and colorful flora singing as one. Then, it opens up with a repeating vocal sample. Pitching up and down while an airy melody sets the stage for a grand performance. Taking the hands of listeners into a sheer bright and florescent field of new beginnings. As the tension starts to build and build, the hearts of many start to pound faster and faster. Knowing they’re in for a real treat. And then, it finally hits us with a blast of pure excellence.

The chorus sections throughout completely change the game. A mixture of fluent melodies, bouncy rhythmic structures, and pounding drums creates FRQ NCY’s finest work to date. Even the breakdown portions will have you completely star gazed. As if you were diving into a sea of soft frequencies. Swimming through and discovering unknown treasures. Finding a true home within each one. So if you’re looking for fresh new sound design, atmospheres and more, this is your go-to track. So make sure to go support FRQ NCY and his art by streaming ‘Appearances’ everywhere! You won’t want to miss out on his upcoming EP.

When I first thought about releasing Gems I thought I would be boxing myself into a genre or space, but that slowly turned into just wanting to release art that I feel a connection to and share it with other people no matter how different it may be from my previous projects.

I’m not sure if there’s a goal to the new side. I really think of it as an experiment to see what I can create a vision for and just keep making things that inspire me in my own way. I think it’s cool when artists show a lot of diversity and create things they enjoy in eloquent ways, and I definitely want to align myself with that.

Continuously separating themselves as one of the most premiere platforms in all of dance music, the fine folks at Electric Hawk have shown they have quite the knack for finding the pulse of the community and some of the most sultry underground talent. Just a little over a year ago they unveiled their debut compilation album In Harmony, a wide-ranging eclectic collection of tracks from some of the brightest up-and-coming minds in the business. Now, they’ve started 2021 with all cylinders firing with the release of their sophomore compilation in the form of In Unity, a delightfully diverse collection featuring blistering pieces from the likes of Redrum, Deadcrow, FRQ NCY, Tek Genesis, NotLö, Sky Suite, Capshun, Eyezic, Spüke, Nik P, and many more! Check out my full thoughts on the compilation, and snag a saucy surprise for this weekend below!

Gently welcoming you into the calming embrace of this sonic voyage, Redrum kicks things off with a full-bodied, elongated hug with ‘Fluid.’ Featuring airy, thought-provoking melodies and a warm glow, this piece is the equivalent of watching the sunrise as you sip your morning coffee in solitude, keeping you firmly grounded in that moment. A wonderful kick-off to In Unity, listeners will be left locked-in as the tracklist moves ever deeper through the compilation.

Feeling like a jolt of electricity that courses through your bones, Nik P’s ‘Crescent’ is a tremendous concoction of delectable drum and bass that makes it nearly impossible to not start wildly wiggling no matter the setting. Deep basslines, swagged-out fills, and sensational grooves combine to create a sound that is truly irresistible. An audible stimulant of only the highest caliber, Nik P has truly outdone himself, and offered up one of the most energetic pieces on the entire compilation.

Settling into the middle of In Unity, the tremendous twosome of NotLö and Sky Suite offer up a sizzling bass-heavy affair in the form of ‘Dismantle’, a piece that successfully rearranges your being at a subatomic level. With nothing dainty about this piece in sight, listeners should expect hearty cascades of thunderous low-end and immense amounts of crunchy delight. It’s not often that two swiftly rising titans of the underground scene put their heads together, but fans will be guaranteed to be more than satisfied from this delightful combination.

For fans of gritty heavy goodness, Deadcrow’s ‘Predator’ is an absolute weapon of a track, capable of leveling entire city blocks with its vicious sound design. Without a doubt the heaviest piece on In Unity, this is one track that’s surely going to be a favorite among the basshead crowd and would be a sure-fire gamechanger on a standard festival rig. For hard wave aficionados, and even fans of genre-bending underground heat, Deadcrow successfully serves up only the spiciest of heat.

Sydney, Australia’s Tek Genesis continues his sonic expansion from his original project William., trading more traditional trap stylings for left-field-centric flavors. His latest track ‘Holographix’ is no exception, sporting an underlying hip-hop aesthetic while pounding your eardrums with heavy, full-bodied bass that gets one’s head nodding ever-so-satisfyingly. A little bit dubby, a little bit wubby, but all around a fantastic time.

One of the most refreshing pieces on In Unity, ‘Epiphany’ brings unmatched energy to the table filled with unbridled and unrelenting positivity. A track that truly makes it difficult not to smile and get up and groove, this equates to a tremendous treat on the ears and a pleasant jolt to the bones. FRQ NCY has truly upped his sound design to immaculate levels, and his artistic prowess will surely carry him to major career milestones in the coming years.

The last piece I’m going to cover from In Unity is the massive three-way collab between Capshun, Eyezic, and Spüke. A gyration-inducing amalgamation of distinct styles that come together to create an atmosphere of inquisitive joy. Peace sitting calmly at the forefront of your mind while your body relishes in the current moment, it ends by drifting off to quietly to nothing, going out just as soothingly as it began.

Wow. 14 tracks. 18 artists. 1 massive success. In Unity perfectly encompasses the boundary-defying attitude that is so prevalent from the fine folks at Electric Hawk, and is a sure sign that they’re here for good. A shining light in the music community, and a welcome home for the best and brightest, their sophomore compilation album is a smash hit. Want to keep the party rolling? Check out their In Unity Virtual Music Festival this Saturday and Sunday (January 23-24) featuring almost every artist included on In Unity, along with the saxxiest man in bass music Griz. If Electric Hawk’s past streams are any indication of what’s to come, this will surely be a can’t miss event. Hope to see you all in the chat!

Dedicated to establishing a deeper connection with his listeners through his multifaceted production style, FRQ NCY continues to rumble the bass scene one release at a time. By drawing inspiration from globally recognized producers such as Flume, Bassnectar and Deadmau5, FRQ NCY has already showcased his dark, yet signature sinister sound with the release of his 2018 The Apex Effect EP. However, what lures his fan base into wanting more of his infectious production style is his ability to build on his signature sound with a much more twisted approach. From distortion, sub-bass frequencies, eerie synths and ground breaking basslines, just a few of these descriptors are already enough to prove that FRQ NCY is bringing out those mystical vibes which sway between bass and slow tempo trap music. Known as one of Atlanta’s finest producers, FRQ NCY’s motivation to perfect his sound design does not unnoticed with the release of his Broken Patterns EP out now on Bassrush.

With mystery as one of FRQ NCY’s key elements, a rush of layered frequencies and a growling distortion lead listeners into his world of ‘Broken Patterns.’ Beginning to hallucinate with copious amounts of ground shaking bass and cutting edge instrumentals firing through the single, FRQ NCY is just getting warmed up. Warning listeners with a uneasy sound that feels as if came from a movie when things are about to go wrong, this producer incorporates the use of slow tempo lasers along with a buffered trap instrumental to completely blow your mind away. Now, ‘Love + Hate,’ are strong words in the music industry. Some absolutely love bass and some despise it, but the beauty of FRQ NCY is that he paints a picture for his listeners through his music. Brightening the day with an energetic introduction consisting of vibrant melodies, FRQ NCY begins to twist your imagination slowly as you begin to float through a river of bass-heavy wave lengths which cross between euphoric and mystical. If a song was intended to portray communication between humans and nature, it feels as if this is the one.

On a more personal level, many have experienced ‘Pins and Needles’ in their life time but what about feeling a tingling sensation from a mutated track. With sub levels, screechy instrumentals and a high pitched chime, FRQ NCY’s ability to cross multiple boundaries in this mind-altering single is undeniably impressive. As obsessive as the EP already feels, ‘Rubberband’ is one of my personal favorites as FRQ NCY bridges the gap between trap and bass music with this one. Getting heavier and not to mention filthier as the track progresses, jaws will drop and many will be asking themselves where his cutting edge sound has been all of my life. Inspired earlier to write electronic music after seeing a G Jones show, there is no doubt in my mind that FRQ NCY has just brought the antidote known as ‘Wyvern’ in times of need. Shifting levels slowly with underground-space like vibes, this hard-hitting producer clearly has the ability to twist his signature sound and innovate even further in the bass scene.

Chaz Hayley, also known as FRQ NCY, has been serving up titillating beats to bass deprived ears for years now, with complex soundscapes and robust sampling being at the forefront of his game. He’s received major attention for his Lil Uzi Vert flip, and his fantastically detailed piece ‘Is There Anybody Out There?‘ just to name a few. Now he charges forward in his 2020 campaign with a gift to all the lovers out there on Valentine’s Day, the double sided ‘Love+Hate,’ released on the ever impressive Bassrush.

The opening of ‘Love+Hate’ is a pallet cleanser for the soul, immediately catching your attention with a looped and echo’d melody with hip-hop undertones. This culminates in an overall beat that is equal parts dancey and beautiful, an instant mood-booster. ‘Love + Hate’ is played out in the drop with a constant back and forth with grimy bass lines and drawn out airy segments, resembling both love and hate in equal parts. The title along with how the song plays out creates this genius sonic play that tells a palpable story. This is cheekily a fantastically genius idea, and shows a level of craftsmanship and ingenuity that assuredly makes FRQ NCY stand out from the crowd. The level of polish that’s been attained while still incorporating so many different elements makes it rather absurd how well this song flows,a grade-A bop if you’ve ever heard one.

FRQ NCY already had one successful release on Bassrush 2 weeks ago with ‘Rubber Band‘ on their The Prophecy Vol. 1 collaborative album, and now he’s done it once again. With multiple banging tracks already under his belt in 2020, 2020 could be a very big year for this youthful artist. Check out ‘Love+Hate’ for yourself below!

While Bassrush has consistently maintained a steady outpouring of audible content and a salient presence as a stage host for major events, such as Electric Forest, it wasn’t until the midway point this past summer that the brand further explored the concept of a roster compilation, as featured in the Ghost Town LA soundtrack, which features tracks from Bassrush dark dubstep front-runners Caspa, Ternion Sound, Coki, Eazybaked, and Bukez Finezt.

Now revealing the first chapter of a novel new compilation, The Prophecy: Vol. 1 works as a synopsis of Bassrush’s talent, composing 11-unique tracks including a long-anticipated collaborative gauntlet between sfam, G-Space, & Mystic Grizzly, as well as tunes from the likes of Esseks, Shanghai Doom, Abelation, FRQ NCY, and ECRAZE.

Encompassing the many eclectic sub-genres that bass has to offer, this new Bassrush Compilation is not one to miss. Be sure to check out The Prophecy: Vol. 1 out now below!

As depicted in his standalone EP The Apex Effect, FRQ NCY possesses the uncanny ability to devise massive soundscapes utilizing minimal, peculiar components to craft an insatiable, wonky cadence within each track. Building on this groove, his latest ‘Cockpit Shakin” leverages a simple snap-kick beat as the foundation for an entire galaxy of laser-like synths and space risers to take shape.

Needless to say, FRQ NCY’s latest will take your next Uber trip to Mars to a whole new level. Be sure to show some love on SoundCloud to unlock the free download for ‘Cockpit Shakin’ ‘.

Atlanta-based producer FRQ NCY is having a massive year. The quantity and quality of his genre-defying tracks have continuously taken listeners to new dimensions with their otherworldly innovation. Weaving his way through heavy, raw and experimental sounds with ease, FRQ NCY is bound to take off inthe bass scene. His Philadelphia-based counterpart Mindset is on this same level too, shown through a plethora of mind-melting singles and their 2017 collaboration titled ‘Indigo’.

A match made in heaven, the experimental geniuses decided to team up once again, this time offering a mesmerizing three-track EP aptly titled Perplexity. Combining warping synths with the meanest basses, the entirety of the project will leave you in awe. Drum and bass-inspired drums lead off ‘Heatwave’ before shifting into a wonky trap drop that only intensifies as the track progresses. ‘Equilibrium’ begins in a more melodic tone, gradually building the tension within before exploding into another extraterrestrial expedition. Perhaps the most representative of the EP’s title, the final track ‘Mydoom’ will leave you bewildered with its unnatural yet weirdly satisfying bass.

FRQ NCY and Mindset are pushing bass boundaries with every release. Any fan of G Jones, Bleep Bloop and Chee needs to check out the Perplexity EP, out now on Saturate Records.
