One of the biggest surprises on Skrillex‘s Quest For Fire, both in terms of the collaboration and in terms of the heat, was ‘Hydrate’ alongside PEEKABOO, Flowdan and BEAM. For Skrillex to tap one of the hottest vocalists out right now and one of bass music’s most promising stars in the same track is surely among the highest recognition PEEKABOO could ever desire. Since the release of the two albums, Skrillex has hinted that perhaps more is to come, while playing unreleased material throughout his shows this year.

Notable among this stash of unreleased goodies was a track that sounded like the aforementioned tune, but wasn’t quite it. Today, that track, titled ‘Badders,’ finally reaches the light of day, and sees the stacked lineup of ‘Hydrate’ return, swapping vocals from BEAM for added production flair from G-Rex. In short, ‘Badders’ is yet another brute that highlights the strengths of all involved. Carrying the flow that PEEKABOO has mastered while featuring key elements of each contributor, the cut is tailored to sound systems with a heavy sub. Flowdan’s lyrics sail smoothly over a bass-heavy undertone that gradually becomes nastier as it progresses (that crunchy bass in the latter half of each verse is just mean), and production swagger is ever-present from start to finish.

Don’t miss ‘Badders’ below.

When it comes to making some of the hardest slapping tracks in the bass music industry right now, Champagne Drip and G-Rex are assuredly no strangers to sitting near the top of the leaderboard. Consistently smashing all preconceived notions about their individual styles and experimental bass music as a whole, innovation and creativity front-load their freight trainlike workloads. Between G-Rex’s immaculately dark and stylistic Hallows EP, of which we had the great pleasure of premiering ‘All I Do‘ from, and Champagne Drip’s ‘Me and You‘ with Lucii and ‘After the Water‘ with Zeds Dead, it’s really no wonder that eventually these two titans of sound would pool their immense production knowledge together to create something truly spectacular. That piece in question? ‘Cold Case’ out now on Wakaan.

With an intro reminiscent of something in a monster movie right before the terrifying beast is unveiled, ‘Cold Case’ establishes dominance right out of the gates. Excitement peaks as the build brings unrelenting force like a shot of adrenaline straight to the dome, as the monstrosity nears ever closer. Once the fiend rears its ugly head though, it’s game over, as the combined technical prowess of these two masterful artists is unparalleled, with production in the drops so clean you could eat a four-course meal off it. The latter half is even more electrifying, as the fake drop that swiftly rises in tenacity sends listeners into a verifiable frenzy before they’re bombarded with even more audible delicacies. With such a smash-hit as their first collaboration, we can only hope we can hear more from these two in the near future. Check out ‘Cold Case’ for yourself below, and grab the free download here!

Bass music lovers have been rejoicing over the diabolically dark beats cooked up in the all-you-can-eat beat kitchen headed by none other than master chef G-Rex. The Detroit, Michigan native has been emphatically doling-out full-bodied eargasms to all purveyors of wubby, dubby, spooky audible nonsense. First gaining major notoriety for arguably one of the most iconic bass tracks of the decade, ‘Babatunde‘ with Peekaboo, he also dazzled audiences with the release of his debut Requiem EP. With each subsequent release gaining a heightened sense of ferocity, while also pushing the boundaries of progressive sound design, this is one artist defying all preexisting genre norms and consistently changing the communal landscape of the sonic ecosystem. Now, he’s aiming to bring the perfect soundtrack to your Halloween experience with the release of his 4-track sophomore Hallows EP out on Wakaan, and we’ve had the great pleasure of premiering ‘All I Do’ from it for your listening pleasure right here on FUXWITHIT.

Setting an ominous, inquisitive aesthetic from the very beginning, ‘All I Do’ will have you feeling a delightful sense of evil. Punishing ear canals with deep, gloomy low-end that rattles the bones and stirs the soul, listeners will be left with strong compulsions to don their darkest attire and hit the town to create absolute mayhem. Immaculately sprinkled vocal chops complete the whole package, gorging the ego while filling your being with excessive electricity. If you were still unsure before rinsing this track just what it was that G-Rex does, it’s win, and in progressively greater scope and frequency. Showing no signs of slowing down whatsoever, the 4-track Hallows EP is the perfect soundtrack for any (socially distanced) Halloween celebration, and ‘All I Do’ will keep you on your toes moving and grooving to your heart’s content. Check out the track and the rest of the EP for yourself below! Be sure to grab the free download.

Heavy bass listeners across the world have been waiting on the release of this track for quite some time, and it is finally here! Two of the heavyweight bass champions Dubloadz and G-REX pair up in ‘Grease’ which is out via Deadbeats as a part of Dubloadz 3-track EP EXOPLANET. It was around a year ago now that this duo was seen on the Insomniac Track of the Day with their project ‘Leviathan‘ in which they presented a ripple in time and space with a wonky and wobbly heater. Knowing what these two are capable of, you can only imagine the pandemonium in their latest collaboration.

‘Grease’ is an amplified sound presentation of the two styles these artists have to offer and their capability of being able to blend their textures together. With the vocal samples saying what the rest of us have been, “Everybody waiting on it,” we thankfully don’t have to wait any longer. In the first drop we hear quick risers and what seems like a frenzy of sounds racing by your ears. The follow up drop brings in a thick low end bass that causes a quick halt before an all out bounce and sway session ensues. While they could have easily called it done after that, they had more to offer. Stick around after the credits at the end of the movie because we have ourselves a third drop that oscillates between the first two drops in a cohesive manner. It takes the zippy sounds and unifies it with the slower low end bass fills.

A track that properly displays the skill of each producer and provides new life in each drop heard. ‘Grease’ is just one of the three auditory exhibits on the EXOPLANET EP out now via Deadbeats.

What adoring fans may not know, the prodigious Detroit producer expresses an uncanny ear for diversity and has dabbled within a variety of genres, including an impassioned future bass rendition of Foxes ‘Youth’ released in the infancy of his career, which showcases an emotionally-wrought journey of the fleeting luxury of youth riddled with dazzling floral synths and emphatic beat breaks.

‘Doughboi’ takes a shot to the abyss, as an expeditious build lurks feverishly in the background amid an ominous tolling of bells. A grungy, abrupt vocal loop permeates the foreground as the cadence of the track hastens, a sudden surge of bass unleashes a convulsion of low-resonating wobbles and captivating drum fills. The melody doubles back offering a momentary reprise before launching into a lethal second incursion of waning metallic synths and petulant eruptions of subs.

Concocting a crucible of bass, G-REX & TYNAN’s latest collaboration is not a track for the faint-hearted, be sure to check out ‘Doughboi’ below.

G-REX is quickly becoming one of the most impressive and reliable names in the bass scene. ‘Babatunde’ took the world by storm, becoming one of the biggest and baddest bass records of the past few years, but he’s not sitting back and banking upon its success. Shortly after it’s release G-REX unveiled his incredible Rift EP and unleashed collaborations with YOOKiE & Ghastly. Keeping his foot on the gas, the Detroit native gears up to unleash his Requiem EP today on Wakaan.

We have the pleasure of premiering ‘Warning,’ the EP’s epic climax. ‘Warning’ welcomes us into a dark and dirty dystopian world. Alarm sirens entrance your mind as red strobes light up the blackened surroundings. Deep but distant bass rattles shake the ground around you, readying your mind for something terrifying. The words “This is an attack warning,” are a final caution before the world descents into pure madness. Towering robots rip through building, shooting lazers from their eyes, singeing the concrete jungle. Horses run through city streets wildly, adding to the insanity. Destruction is all around. The madness is all encompassing but it’s also enthralling. When the intensity subdues and you find what you think is safety, the alarm continues to pulse, creating an uneasy conclusion that’s sure to have you wondering what’s next?

There is a new EP just out through Wakaan. Liquid Stranger’s bass label is taking ‘Babatunde’ from PEEKABOO and G-Rex and giving it six fresh versions. The original was released in 2018 and has almost half a million streams to its name – we were feeling it.

Each remake on this EP lives up to expectation. PEEKABOO and G-Rex make a triumphant return with a VIP version of the mix, and it builds suspense from the offset before hitting you with the drops. Dirt Monkey utilises rhythmical depth on his version, whilst there is an epic energy to Eliminate’s which chops and changes rapidly.

Both TYNAN and LUZCID contribute the next couple of flips, with the former’s filling us with joy thanks to its deep, textured instrumentals. The up and coming duo um.. are given the task of rounding off the Babatunde EP, and do so with wonky beats and meandering shards of melody.

G-Rex says of this release: “For this remix EP, we went out and handpicked not only some amazing artists, but our great friends as well to remix our track. Each remix comes with their own unique style that makes the entire package cohesive and interesting.”

G-REX is one of the hardest producers out right now. From his remixes of ‘Deep Down Low’ and ‘Witch Doctor,’ to originals like ‘EFFE’ and ‘Wook Blaster,’ it seems every time you press play on a G-REX track, you’re instantly blown away. And that’s without even mentioning ‘Babatunde,’ easily his biggest and most impressive work to date which has been getting plays from the likes of Skrillex, Excision, Zeds Dead, 12th Planet and several other legends.

With the hype as a high as ever and his production perfectly fine-tuned, the time is finally right for G-REX to unleash his debut EP Rift. Out today on Wakaan, the project illustrates why the Detroit-based producer is the future of bass music. Rift is a brain-bending journey that is a marvel in sound design. The songs are seemingly stripped down masterworks that are burgeoning with dense subtle accents. The result is a four track effort that feels minimal while remaining engrossing. It’s enchanting yet gruesome. It’ll fly you over misty mountains then drag you into the dungeon. Stream Rift below.

We caught up with G-REX to discuss the new EP, ‘Babatunde,’ working with Peeakboo, his approach to production and even got his thoughts on Shaq DJing. Check out the full interview below.

Who is G-REX and why do you make music?

My name is Jake and I produce under G-REX. I’ve been making music for 6 years now. I started doing this while going to school at Western Michigan, I really felt like it was my passion in life and have pursued it since then. I make music because it’s what gets me up everyday and gets me fired up.

Tell us about ‘Babatunde’. How did the song come to life? Is it really named after a Postmates driver?

We basically saw how well we worked together on remix for the ATLiens that we wanted to make a follow up track but an original. I remember we started off a lil slow and we actually had a few different ideas down where we wanted to take the track then things took off and we wrapped it really fast. When we had to pick a name for it, Matt threw out the idea of naming it after his Postmates driver who delivered him tacos when we working on the track and it stuck.

Can you tell us a bit about the EP. What’s the overall theme of Rift? What do you want people to get out of the project?

So Rift is my debut EP. Super excited to get it out there. I always wanted to do a Halloween themed EP and this worked out perfectly. A lot of my inspiration comes from sounds and music in horror movies. Horror is the only genre of film where the sound really drives the fear into you, without the music and sound effects it pretty much wouldn’t have the same effect, so that’s always been something that’s intrigued me. I really tried to make a lot of sounds that I haven’t heard in bass music and really push some boundaries with the project.

What’s your favourite sound or sample on Rift?

The weird click sound in ‘Rift’ is my favorite by far. It’s actually a cell phone ringtone with a frequency shifter on it and an LFO tool that gives it that weird swinging sound.

People probably think my projects are super small but on average I use about 180 tracks of mostly just little accents and stuff to keep the track driving.

Part of what makes your music so exceptional is your ability to create songs that are minimal but still so engrossing. Can you talk a little bit about your less is more approach? Any tips for producers trying to master it?

I found my style in the less is more approach. When I start a track I really focus on the drums and the bass first to get the movement down, then I fill it out with weird FX and distort the basses and make variations until it all makes sense. People probably think my projects are super small but on average I use about 180 tracks of mostly just little accents and stuff to keep the track driving.

There’s a dark energy contained in your music. Is your sound representative of your personality?

I would say a little. I’ve been told I have a dark sense of humor but other then that I’m a super positive happy person most of the time.

I’m still on cloud nine about the weekend because so many artists that have been day 1 idols to me were playing my music. Definitely was a dream come true

You had the chance to play Lost lands this year. How was the experience?

Lost Lands was absolutely unreal. I got the opportunity to play some tunes in the giant B2B at the pre-party which was really cool. It was definitely the biggest crowd I had ever played too. Unfortunately my set was cancelled the last day due to the weather which was a bummer. I’m still on cloud nine about the weekend because so many artists that have been day 1 idols to me were playing my music. Definitely was a dream come true.

Speaking of Lost Lands. Shaq aka DJ Diesel came through with a surprise set. How was that? Should we be taking Shaq seriously as DJ or is his hype bad for the culture?

I fucking love it. I saw Shaq at Lost Lands and RARE in Orlando this past weekend and it was awesome. That dude could be doing anything in the world right now with how much money he’s made and he’s throwing down heavy dubstep. I’m all about people doing what they love and I can tell he’s sincerely loving this so all the power to him.

Considering you’re one of the artists in the drivers seat, where is bass music going?

I think we’re at this time right now where people are really open to experimental bass music and really just want a refreshing take on it. I think you will start to see people really pushing the boundaries and it really resonating with people on a larger scale then it did in the past few years.

There are a few artists who have stormed onto the scene in full force this year, and there’s no denying that both PEEKABOO and G-REX are at the top of this list. While the former has collaborated with Bassnectar and wev and released on labels such as Wakaan and Jadū Dala, the latter has teamed up with the likes of Hekler, TYNAN, and Kai Wachi and has released tracks on Never Say Die, Kannibalen and TWONK. There is no shortage of heat coming from these two, and they acknowledged each other’s dominance by collaborating on a massive remix for ATLiens’ ‘Witch Doctor’ earlier this year.

Yesterday saw PEEKABOO and G-REX come together once again in an original that can be described as a fury of freeform bass. Both artists have a signature minimalist sound that focuses on heavy bass lines and underground wobbles, and their latest track titled ‘Babatunde’ released on Wakaan shows listeners exactly why these two are a match made in heaven. The artists waste no time creating an eerie atmosphere before building into a brain-melting drop that can only be fully appreciated with a good set of headphones. The second drop takes listeners on an even wilder journey accentuated by gut-wrenching sound design and hypnotizing percussion. Simply said, the newest concoction from PEEKABOO and G-REX is a must-listen for all bass lovers.
