For years, Good Society‘s power has touched many’s hearts throughout the underground. From a beautiful roster of artists to its own purpose and vision, it’s a label you’ll always find yourself coming back to. Waiting with pure excitement to hear what’s next or who they’re lending the spotlight to. Their whimsical releases from absolute legends as well as their gorgeous artworks have shaped their name into a remarkable staple for music. And with Good Society Vol. 3, they’re pushing the future beat genre even further than ever. Making you fall in love with the genre as well as the artists featured all over again. Taking you back to the roots while showcasing the future.

Bringing organic soul and grooves to the scene, these compilations have pushed sonic boundaries while tendering to the broken and lost. Creating a space you’ll always feel welcome in. The calm and peaceful compositions within will only fill your aura with purpose and happiness. And what a stacked lineup they got this year! Heavy hitters such as laxcity, DECAP, oshi, capshun, Chromonicci, whereisalex, and more have all molded individual stories through sound. Showcasing their strongest techniques while honoring the label with pure style.

“I curated this project to affirm the belonging of hip-hop & electronic music in a single space. Otherwise known as future beats, this project brings together soulful and jazzy boom bap production riddled with soulful rap vocals and electronic sound design. The subgenre was greatly inspired and developed by the likes of Flying Lotus, Mr. Carmack, and quite a few of the artists featured on this project including Oshi, Lophiile, DECAP, whereisalex, & ROMderful. It was no easy undertaking bringing together these staples of the producer world, but over the past year, I’ve been lucky enough to have everyone place their faith in me. After over two years since the last issue, Good Society Volume 3 is our version of the ultimate genre fluid hip-hop album.” – Josh Yamini

Good Society Vol. 3 is an absolute pleasure to experience from beginning to end. The twelve track journey is filled with ear candy and inspiring characteristics. From moments of absolute clarity, to unreal techniques from the artists themselves, it’s a gift that keeps on giving. The drums, melodies and overall arrangements shines on a whole new level. Making you feel completely relaxed and content with your mindset. From laxcity’s bubbly sound design and rhythms, to oshi’s elegant vocals complimenting his hard hitting production, these artists truly went all out and created life long art to last throughout the ages. Representing history as well as giving their audience a taste for what’s to come on the horizon. Bringing warm light among the darkness. So make sure to show your support by streaming Good Society Vol. 3 everywhere via Good Society!

Last night really felt like a full-circle moment. Two artists that we have been supporting for over four years came to Toronto for one night of exquisite vibes. Yes, that sounds cheesy, but it’s an accurate way to describe Laxcity‘s Mini Canadian Tour stop in Toronto, where JKuch served as an opening act. The experience itself was amazing from start to finish, and we thought it would be appropriate to briefly describe the night to inspire our followers to catch a Laxcity or JKuch show whenever they can.

First off, when I saw that Laxcity was coming to Toronto, I immediately copped two tickets. I didn’t ask a friend, or make a plan for the night, but I knew that I had to attend and that I could convince someone to come along for the journey. To my great surprise, tickets were only $10, which is probably the cheapest show I’ve ever attended in Toronto. Amazing.

I then convinced a long-time friend who just happened to be in town this week to come to the show and, after catching up over a couple of drinks before the event, we found our way to the venue with just a couple of minutes to spare before JKuch came on. The venue itself was unlike anything I had ever experienced – it was a small, art studio-like room with an awesome outdoor patio that definitely does not only serve as a concert venue. No backstage, no VIP section… the IN Lifestyle Event Space allowed fans and artists the mingle during the show, and provided a welcome atmosphere to all. JKuch ended up playing just short of two hours, with originals lining the vast majority of his set. At one point, he even said something along the lines of “I’m running out of originals to play,” and the crowd laughed and soon danced along to what followed. The intimacy of the venue allowed the artists to connect with the fans, and allowed the fans to realize how chill and approachable their favourite artists can be.

Shortly after the sunset, Laxcity jumped behind the decks for his official Toronto debut. Despite not being a massive venue, one could tell that every single attendee was there because they were fans of Laxcity and JKuch, and it showed in the energy of crowd. This wasn’t your random Thursday night event where drunk people randomly stumbled upon – it was an intimate gathering of people who liked the artists. This resulted in an incredible energy for the duration of Laxcity’s set, as fans could enjoy the the high-intensity drops just as much as the slower, more melodic interludes. Along with a ton of originals, there was no shortage of Moore Kismet support interlaced within the more lively sections of Laxcity’s set, and the artist was able to captivate the crowd’s attention with ease. From his older material, to unreleased gems, to tracks from his good friends, Laxcity impressed from start to finish, and his entire set felt like a blissful dream.

To top it all off, Laxcity et al. dropped by my place today to deliver a signed poster just to say thanks for attending. This experience single-handedly revived my passion for live music, and writing about it – everyone responsible for this Mini Canadian Tour deserves all the praise in the world. Laxcity, JKuch and their teams curated a night for the books, and the artists further demonstrated why they have earned the respect of so many through their craft. Catch Laxcity in Vancouver Saturday June 25th, or hopefully soon in a city near you.

laxcity hasn’t been missing out on anything lately. In the recent months he has collected a performance at the spectacular second edition of Secret Sky, a Brownies & Lemonade Beat Smash battle, a music video and, last but not least, a massive collab with Moore Kismet. To crown this excellent moment, what was missing was just a little bit of new music. Not that I’ve already stopped listening to Disconnect, but you know, capitalizing on such momentum was a logical choice.

In any case, laxcity didn’t just churn out a new single, but he’s decided to overdo it by delighting us with a 55-minute mixtape. 2018-2021 consists of 14 tracks, which, as the title explicitly suggests, are a showcase of what he’s been up to for the past few years. There’re some favorite cuts from his infamous b-sides account, some from his main project that weren’t on Spotify yet (still no sign of ‘sunset‘ though) and of course a few brand new tracks. “This mixtape is packed with a versatile palette of styles and genres ranging from high energy future bass to mellow, ethereal lofi hip hop” laxcity told us. The concept is loud and clear after just the first three songs. ‘Stroll’ kicks off the mixtape in a very carefree and bouncy way, while ‘More Life’ is already way more exuberant and uptempo. ‘Outcy’ instead punches you right in the face with some massive future bass synths (check the second half if you’re more into the chill stuff). laxcity continued “I’ve been nagged a lot to put out more music so here you go guys, you happy now?” No need to say that we’re absolutely delighted! Within 2018-2021 there is a track for all kinds of tastes and for the most hardcore fans it represents one hour of exquisite escapism into the laxcityverse.

Although to some it may seem like a cheap choice, I personally appreciate immensely that he has “repacked” together some old gems alongside new material, with a brand new visual presentation. This is something I wish many more artists would do. With all the music being released it’s so easy to miss out on a song or forget it shortly after. Not on purpose or for lack of interest, but precisely because the overload of stimulus we receive is often too much for us. Even though we would love it (especially us, bloggers), we can’t physically handle these rhythms. Being always updated on the latest releases and at the same time being able to fully enjoy the music as it deserves are two things that unfortunately get in the way of each other. With projects like these, you as artists have the possibility to give new life and interpretation to your music by perhaps exploiting knowledge and variables that you didn’t previously have. As fans, we have the chance to better explore and appreciate your artistic journey and eventually relive songs we had forgotten or never discovered before (it was years since the last times I listened to ‘Soft Pillows’ for example). I believe that we often don’t need new music. We just need to be reminded how beautiful what already have is.

“My skills in music continue to grow and I’m working on a lot these days, but I hope you guys will accept this while I work on the next big project ;)” added laxcity in the end. Don’t worry Joshua, we accept this mixtape with much, much pleasure.

Laxcity is not an artist known for collaborations. By memory, I can recall just three examples before ‘Fluorish,’ all in collaboration with Rohaan. If you don’t remember at least one, well you need to take some bass history classes. I’m obviously referring to ‘First Of Many‘, released on Jadu Dala in 2017. A groundbreaking tune that definitely created some buzz back then. But why am I spending words on an old release when we have some extra fresh music to talk about? Because it taught me that even if laxcity is definitely not a “collab bro?” kind of artist, when he actually does, he always delivers.

Part of the four Moore Kismet songs released the past Friday, ‘Flourish’ establishes itself as the hardest-hitting one of the group. Given the very distinctive styles of the two producers, it’s super fun to try to pinpoint their signature sounds within the body of the track. The intro and especially the outro are clearly dominated by laxcity’s cinematic and orchestral soundscape with cameos by Kismet’s glitchy synths and vocal choices. The build-up instead is 100% Moore Kismet style. Loud, noisy, galvanizing. As happened in ‘First Of Many,’ in the drop things definitely get mental. I candidly admit that I haven’t even tried to figure out who did what. As an average human being, I simply admire what these two amazing artists have accomplished without asking questions. Want to show your friends the endless potential of electronic music? Show them ‘Flourish’ and they will surely understand.

Wow, it’s been more than one year and a half since my last piece about laxcity. It does feel strange. When an artist is so present in my life with their music, I often lose track of time as I don’t feel the need to check out anything else besides their albums and songs. Nor their social accounts, nor their announcements. It’s a level of relationship where it’s just me and the music.

That’s why I was a bit worried when I found out that, while I was spending my long quarantine afternoons vibing with his previous works ‘Purity’ and ‘Catharsis‘, laxcity wasn’t having a good time. As stated during the EP launch, “my experience (with quarantine) wasn’t that bad, but my creativity with music was affected the most […] I had all the time in the world to write timeless music but the truth is that I never finished anything“. It’s not hard to understand how frustrating this situation can be and I’m pretty sure that, in a way or another, a lot of us experienced the same. Luckily, laxcity is among the ones who have found a way out of this apathy tunnel. Hard times call hard measures, and in order to bring back the magic, he fought against his own perfectionism, just writing whatever came to his mind.

Now, are you kidding me Joshua? This is what pops out when you let yourself go? You make it seem so easy to be a genius.

To be completely honest, when the first single of Disconnect was released I wasn’t so euphoric. Usually, whenever EMIA is involved in an electronic production it’s clear that is going to be a hit, but this time I wasn’t able to get along with their collaboration. In ‘The Way That I Do’ I didn’t feel any alchemy and the two styes never get to blend together as they did, for example, in ‘Just Try’. Somehow laxcity’s production and EMIA’s vocal line sounded detached and emotionally far from each other during all the track’s duration. But I’m glad to say that my skepticism lasted very little. Despite what I have just said still holds true, now I have five other magnificent tracks with which amuse me.

“Through this EP I embraced creating whatever I want, however I want.” Forgive me for quoting laxcity’s words once again, but this is probably the very best way to sum up Disconnect. All the tracks start in what can be described as a “very laxcity way”, but they all hide little surprises, unexpected twists and creative flashes that take the final result away from our expectations, keeping the whole EP fresh and adventurous. It can be a sudden change of tempo, a peculiar use of vocals, some synth oddity, you simply never know what you’ll find after the next beat.

Diving into Disconnect is exactly like diving into a warm bathtub. You feel entitled to let everything go and just enjoy the moment and the sensation of temporary freedom. Your head is finally empty and the most disparate thoughts are free to roam without having to follow the rigid logic of rationality, productivity, performance. I personally love how Laxcty’s tracks often exceed four minutes, lengths that, combined with their hypnotic paces, amplify this feeling of ecstasy. ‘Falling For You’ is the pinnacle of this phenomenon. This six-minute Burial-like opus is a masterpiece that can help you reach Nirvana if listened at the right moment (again, I highly suggest you try with a hot bath). Since naming my favorite tracks off the EP would simply mean copy and pasting the tracklist, instead, I’m gonna leave there the order in which I personally like to listen to it: ‘Grateful’, ‘Southbound’, ‘Book’, ‘Drive’, ‘Falling For You’.

You can stream and purchase Disconnect here.

Oolacile‘s Automaton EP was one of 2019’s most underrated dubstep projects. A quality showcase of the talented producer’s unique signature sound, Automaton featured four innovative tracks that allowed Oolacile to continue to carve his own path in the bass scene. When word broke out of a remix pack for the project, fans were itching in anticipation for its full release and track list. As the remixes slowly began to appear on SoundCloud over the course of the last week, it was evident that Automaton RE:Automated was going to be both heavy and extremely entertaining.

Perhaps the biggest surprise to the track list was Laxcity, an artist not typically seen in the bass realm but always able to hold his ground and let his undeniable talent and work ethic speak for itself. With his take on ‘Divisions,’ Laxcity does just that, transforming Oolacile’s energetic original into a moving future bass bop. Another impressive surprise is Aweminus‘ bass house take on the same track, further displaying his versatility and innovation in genres that often stagnate. Fans of heavier dubstep will love Oolacile’s ‘Neurons VIP,’ Digitist and Neonix‘s remix of ‘Dauntless,’ Akeos and Jub‘s gruelling take on ‘Machina’ and Subfiltronik‘s ferocious ‘Otto’ remix. Frequent collaborators Clockvice and Vorso also deliver an intense version of ‘Dauntless’ while Mr. Bill closes out the diverse project with a soothing yet complex ‘Otto’ flip.

Automaton RE:Automated is direct proof of both Oolacile and his friends’ true talents. Don’t miss it below.

“Right now I only create music on my laptop in bed, hopefully I can start a studio build over time. As for beyond… hmmm… I’m not really sure, but it’s just a matter of where this music will take me from my bed you know?”

This is what Laxcity answered exactly 3 years ago to the question “What are your aspirations for the next 6-12 months and beyond?” in what was probably the first of many interviews. From that day, his unique music has brought him from his bedroom to Canada and Portugal, on Owsla with an official remix, on a NHL Adidas advertisement, and right onto the roster of a top tier record label. And the wheel doesn’t seem to stop spinning at all. Quite the opposite instead. With his latest EP Purity released in the past weeks and many major changes happening in Joshua’s is life in the past few months, we felt the necessity to virtually sit down with him to take stock of the situation and to get a clue of where he and Laxcity will go from now. Without further ado, let’s just jump into the interview while listening this exclusive FUXWITHIT guest mix, packed with not one, not two, not three, but five unreleased, two IDs and his brand new Madeon remix.

I’ve heard that you just graduated, congratulations man! How does it feel to be a free man and a full-time artist? What will you miss most about college and what are you most excited about in this new chapter of your life?

Honestly, this feels pretty epic and unexpected! It took living independently in uni and having all this free time (sorta) to get where I am now this quick! I am just so proud at this point! It’s good to know that I’m done with school, however, I’m slightly worried that I won’t have an everyday routine for a while now. I aim to make this new chapter in my life a path of self-improvement and self-discovery!

Most people don’t find what will really brings them that fulfillment in life. It’s always good to appreciate what you have and who you are.

A new EP means new music, but also a new story. With Catharsis you told us about the acquisition of self-awareness and acceptance through a process of loss and rebirth. What’s the message behind Purity? What do you want to highlight in the new stage of your growth?

All my life, my self-image hasn’t been the greatest. I beat myself up for screwing up on the smallest of things, I don’t really think that much of myself and my self-criticism gets quite toxic at times. Purity is my own special way of telling myself to stop dwelling within that state of mind. I need to cut out those negative thoughts and look outside myself. Music has provided literally everything I’ve ever wanted – good friends, fulfillment and better hopes for the future! I just have to keep reminding myself of what I have. Most people don’t find what will really brings them that fulfillment in life. It’s always good to appreciate what you have and who you are. Purity is literally just all about that! On the surface, if you think of yourself negatively right now, stop it! You honestly could’ve been a lot worse, appreciate who are and what you’re capable of already!

By featuring your own vocals on the title track and shooting your very first music video, you have exposed yourself way more than ever before for this EP. Since it’s not a secret you’re an introvert, how has it felt to be on the front line and not as “safe” behind Laxcity’s mask?

The mention of my past negative self-image plays a part in this. I’ve always been reluctant to create a track and have my own vocals on it, but I think it’s fun to put into practice. When doing any vocal tracking 9 times out of 10 they will be deleted. ‘Purity’ has my own vocals in it and it feels like I just let out a part of myself that has been held back for so long. Even though the song is receiving a lot of praise so far I cringe every time I listen (haha).

It was a crazy leap of bravery for me going to Madeira and meeting up with Czech Vibes. I’m not a person that has traveled to any holiday destinations so being there literally felt like I was daydreaming, except this time the dream is real. I was also very nervous to meet Magdelena and Marketa of Czech Vibes Sound. But after getting to know them it was the greatest trip of my life and the two of them are really nice friendly people!

I still feel sort of safe behind Laxcity’s mask in the sense that since everyone knows I’m introverted and I am a person that prefers to be alone. All my life I have always wondered why I’m like this and why I don’t feel comfortable with being outgoing but having everyone know that sort of brings comfort to how I see myself as a person. It’s okay for me to be quiet but I shouldn’t really let the fact that I’m introverted justify any actions in future.

As we mentioned earlier, you now have plenty more time to invest into your career. What can we expect different from the past years? Are you planning to work on any of your related passions like graphics/animation or soundtracks/scores?

The biggest difference that everyone can expect pretty soon is more visual content. I know I haven’t really been active with that side of my creativity, but I aim to start getting back into cinematography, expand on my knowledge of photography and bringing back my artistic skills. Consistency with this will be difficult but with enough practice, everyone can expect more of that from me. After becoming skilled with sound design and music production, it would be a dream of mine to do sound design for a sci-fi game. Maybe one that involves cute robots similar to the ones from WALL-E. I would also be honored if I could do music scoring for an independent/blockbuster film or like a Netflix series (please haha).

The internet is the greatest invention ever and there’s always someone out there interested in something you’re creating! Not sure where most producers should look but just keep putting music out, someone will find you in time!

You are a great source of inspiration for up-and-coming artists. You went from being one of the many SoundCloud artists to striking a deal with the legendary ALT:VISION alongside names like Medasin, Autograf, Wolfgang Gartner, K?D, Drezo and many more. What suggestions do you have for all the upcoming artists that are carving their way in the industry? What are the true and false myths of the so-called DIY-utopia?

The most important thing to keep in mind is that you should be patient, let everything happen naturally. Your dream won’t be clear straight away. If you’re extremely good and passionate with something, progress will sneak up on you. Honestly just get to this position the same way I did – by being the best you can be with your craft. Just focusing on the music is the best thing you can ever do for your music career if that’s what you’re aiming to do. Promote it by sharing it with friends that have the same musical interests as you around your area. If they’re not interested in the same music as you, that’s okay! The internet is the greatest invention ever and there’s always someone out there interested in something you’re creating! Not sure where most producers should look but just keep putting music out, someone will find you in time!

If a selfless aspiring artist manager with stupendous work ethic, who doesn’t care if he is running on fumes every day, asks to interview you for a music blog he just started, ask him for help with your music and then maybe a few years later a management team that’s perfect for you will gather around you and help out once you build a small following.

Oh, just for the record, was the ALT:VISION team made of “super serious guys in suits” as you were afraid of?

I was really surprised that they weren’t at all. Judging from call sessions I’ve had with them they seem like chill people who are just serious with what they do. I was anxious when it came to signing with them because in my head I was thinking “this is it, this is where I sign my soul to the music industry…” but it’s not like that at all! They will poke at me and Adrian for tasks to be done but I’ve not felt any pressure at all so far! I can’t wait to meet them in LA later this year!

Let’s get back to the future of Laxcity. Not considering your second account (which by now counts 143 tracks or, at least, ideas of tracks) you’re starting to have a quite rich repertoire. Are you still practicing your skills as a DJ before starting to do live shows?

I’ve been really on and off with DJ-ing lately. I think before stepping out into the show playing world, I have to get back into it pretty soon. I feel that song selection will be a lot more important than the actual skill of DJing itself. I’ll most likely spend a month working on my skills before implementing them in shows.

Last month you announced, quoting your own words, “TON of official remixes for some of my favorite artists.” Since the whole community takes for granted that a Medasin remix is among them, can you tell us something more about it or give us hints about the other artists involved?

I cannot tell you about specific names, but they are all inspirations and SoundCloud legends. There are two that are confirmed, one more that is 50/50. A lot more remix opportunities have come through but of course, it is tough to tackle them all at once. It is insane to me that I am able to talk about these names as well! And knowing that they all acknowledge that I exist is just crazy to me! I hope you enjoy the remixes that do end up being released!

As a huge fan of yours, I have to ask this question: are you planning to release physical copies of your music? I don’t know about you, but a Laxcity cassette or vinyl would look pretty cool…

I have been thinking about this for a long time too! If I am ever to get something on vinyl it’ll have to be a song, EP or album I am extremely proud of. It would be so cool to get Catharsis in a physical copy of some kind. If not then maybe the next album will have a chance to shine.

Laxcity erupted into the beat-making scene in 2018 with his debut album Catharsis. The Zambian-born producer hailing from Bristol has continuously provided us elegant arrangements of enchanting melodies and beats that seem to tell a story. Following his album, Laxcity has since then blessed us with tracks such as his remix to San Holo’s ‘Lift me from the ground’ and the single ‘Just Try’. One listen to Purity and you’ll find yourself reveling in its complexity.

Purity has it all, from the beautiful ambient soundscapes to the drum-heavy summer bangers. The opening track ‘Blue Sky’ paints a colorful musical landscape filled with ambient synths and orchestral strings that is sure to give you goosebumps. With ‘Focus’ Laxcity turns up the energy and showcases his vibey drums along with a standout vocal feature from Kudu Blue. Laxcity finds a way to invoke a wide array of emotions with this complete roller-coaster of a project. Throw this one in your queue this summer!

Rohaan and Laxcity are two of the UK’s finest rising producers. Rohaan has made a name for himself with his mind-bending sound design and grabbed the attention of a myriad of labels including Saturate, Quality Goods Records, Circus, Deadbeats, Jadu Dala and more. Laxcity tends to occupy the other side of electronic music; where Rohaan is dark and dirty, Laxcity’s music is often rich with beauty and almost heavenly (see ‘Good Morning’). Despite their differentiating styles, they’re no strangers to coming together, having already collaborated on ‘First Of Many’ and their ‘Us’ remix. Today, they’re releasing their third collaboration entitled ‘Rotary.’ “Every time josh visits we try to start/finish an idea. And this one just seems to be a cool little time capsule of that,” Rohaan tells us.

‘Rotary’ is an auditory journey filled with fresh twists and turns along the way. Opening with an airy soundscape, ‘Rotary’ takes you to the peak of a sun-drenched mountaintop as brisk air fills your lungs. Fast moving drums elevate your heart rate as digital glitches allude to a more ominous adventure ahead. A break builds tension as the scene darkens and an electrical storm quickly rolls in. The reflective clarity you once felt is a distant memory as you’re thrust into survival mode. Mutated polar bears roam wildly and pterodactyls soar overhead. The scene is sure madness…but you can’t help but linger closer with each beat. Embrace the excitement below.

‘Rotary’ is a SoundCloud only release with the two artists throwing it back to the old days. Don’t miss the free download.
