Christmas has officially come early. After teaming up to drop one of the best projects of the year in King’s Disease II, Nas & Hit-Boy are back with a 9-track release entitled Magic. Living up to its name, the new release proves that their chemistry only increases with time. Nas is sounding as sharps as he has as of late and Hit-Boy kills every track behind the boards. From front to back the quality is top-tier but early standouts include the militant ‘Meet Joe Black,’ and DJ Premier & A$AP Rocky assisted ‘Wave Gods.’ Between Magic and King’s Disease II, this is the best Nas has sounded in years. From nostalgia to boss-level flexing, street rhymes, and storytelling, Nas gives us another reminder of why he’s one of the greatest of all time. When Nas and Hit-Boy connect it truly is Magic.

If this is just something to tie fans over, KD III might be their best work yet. Listen to Magic below.

The 15 track album sees one of the greatest rappers of all time connecting with one of the best producers right now. The results are as impeccable as expected. There are hints of nostalgia and Nas’ golden era roots while maintaining a fresh 2021 sound. With features from Eminem, EPMD, A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie, YG, Ms. Lauren Hill and more it’s assured to command repeats for hip-hop heads. From storytelling to braggadocious baller bars and street slaps, Nas proves that nearly 30 years deep he’s still as sharp as ever.

Judas And The Black Messiah: The Inspired Album is the pinnacle of an audio companion for a film. The project is executive produced by Hit-Boy, RCA’s SVP of A&R Dash Sherrod, Ryan Coogler and RCA’s SVP of Marketing/CEO of Six Course Inc. Archie Davis. The film tells the story of Fred Hampton, Chairman of the Illinois Black Panther Party, and his fateful betrayal by FBI informant William O’Neal. With such a powerful story it’s only right that the soundtrack is massive, featuring new music from Nas, Hit-Boy, Jay-Z x Nipsey Hussle, Black Thought, A$AP Rocky, Masego x JID x Rapsody, Rakim + more. You’ll be hard-pressed to find another collection of rap that is this star-studded. Drawing from the movie, the tracks explore a wide range of important topics including revolution, fighting for human rights, racism, struggle, black excellence, and more.

With 22 tracks, it’s a powerful work with a ton of standouts. ‘EPMD’ sees Nas & Hit-Boy getting back to business for a gritty cut that has the legendary emcee painting vivid pictures of street tales, nostalgia, and mob dealings.

‘Welcome to America’ has Black Thought fighting oppression and trying to overcome the perils faced by black people in America from a different perspective with each verse. The lyrics are chilling and moving, while the hook from C. S. Armstrong & Angela Hunte serves to deepen the track’s impact.

Jay-Z & Nipsey Hussle prove to be the perfect pairing on ‘What It Feels Like.’ Nipsey’s verse is a tragic reminder of the greatness we’ve all missed since his passing, but a reminder that he’ll live on forever through his music. Jay flexes with his bars in the way that only the GOAT can. Taking us from cooking crack with a Michelin chef finesse to selling weed in the open and bringing folks home from the feds. It’s a celebration of making it through the struggle with sharp lyrics and political punches.

Hit-Boy has been running the game as a producer and executive producer, but with ‘Broad Day’ he makes a statement with his rap skills. With some of the best rappers currently and all-time featured on this project, delivering a standout track says a lot. The flow is smooth, the punchlines hit, and his confidence is unwavering. The song moves effortlessly from braggadocious to powerful with lyrics like, “Down to take a rubber bullеt for my voting rights.”

Despite the title ‘Something Ain’t Right’ sees Masego, JID & Rapsody coming correct. With each bringing a unique style, it’s diverse but incredibly captivating. Soulful, raw and eye-opening, it’s a can’t miss.

The tracks mentioned above are just a sample of the impeccable collection of music featured on the project. Check out the full release below and be sure to peep the film Judas And The Black Messiah for the full experience.

Statik Selektah is bridging the gap between classic rap and the new generation with his stellar new single ‘Keep It Moving’ with Nas & Joey Bada$$. Nas is one of the greatest emcees of all time and Joey is easily one of the best of the past decade. Hearing them link over Statik’s soulful production is a reminder of East Coast hip-hop’s timeless appeal. The two masters trade verses with each showing each other love. Joey closes his verse with an homage to Nas rapping, “‘Cause it’s a hassle gettin’ caught up in the Devil’s lasso/And that’s what a wise man once told me/I got a lot of love and respect for my OGs,” a clear reference to ‘The World Is Yours.’ Nas returns the love as his verse caps off with, “Who would have knew I would rock them events? I rock with my young Gs, that’s just common sense (Sense).” Statik lets the beat ride with powerful female vocals and choice cuts to give it an anthemic golden era vibe.

For weeks we’ve all known that Kanye and the G.O.O.D. Music camp have been planning what seems like perfectly planned (and executed thus far) roll out for five new albums. First we were treated to a new album from Pusha T followed by a solo Kanye project, a Kid Cudi x Kanye (KIDS SEE GHOSTS) collab album and now a new Nas album. With Kanye serving as the executive producer, NASIR is Nas’ 11th studio album and the 7 track delivers perfectly. Nas has not missed a step and with some of Kanye’s best production ever, he shines with his immaculate storytelling and wordplay skill sets. Stream NASIR below.

Although a large portion of my writing tends to focus on electronic music, hip-hop and rap have always been my first love. I fell in love with the genre 20 years ago and it’s one of the few things that’s remained constant over the greater part of my life. One of the elements that always made rap so special is the storytelling aspect. A good writer can bring you into their world and take you on an epic adventure. To celebrate this dimension of the art form, I’ve put together a playlist that showcases some of the greatest storytelling rap songs of all time. The list ranges from raw street tales, to emotional and personal. We’ve got songs that personify the genre as a women, take you into the mind of a terrorist, and follow a dollar bill. There’s classic cuts from the likes of Warren G and Nate Dogg, Ice Cube, Slick Rick, Nas, Common and Biggie. Underground favourites like Apathy, Louis Logic and Cunninnlynguists. And of course, we’ve got tracks from some of the best new artists like J. Cole, Kendrick, Vic Mensa, Logic and Your Old Droog. Noticeably absent from the list in Jay Z. This is due to the fact that his music isn’t available on Spotify or he’d have a ton of entries on this.

Check out the full playlist below and let us know your favourites.

I never imagined them coming together on a track but it’s 2017 and collaboration has never been at a better place. Proving this once more comes ‘Systematic’. The cut sees Shadow crafting a wild backdrop which is part classic boom-bap and part futuristic. Nas provides fitting bars that range from schemin’ in the hood back in the day to investing in start-ups at present time. With some stellar samples and cuts this one is rounded out perfectly. The track comes off the upcoming Soundtrack for HBO’s stellar comedy Silicon Valley. Peep the collision of two legends below and don’t forget to check out Silicon Valley which returns this Sunday!

One of the UK’s biggest and most eclectic music festivals is set to make its debut in Toronto. Taking place on Toronto Island on June 12 and 13, Bestival’s stacked line-up boasts a wide array of artists, from big name Indie acts, to turn-up kings, future bass originators and one of the greatest rappers of all time. With so many great performers it’s hard to decide who to see. To help you out, we’ve put together a list of can’t miss acts below.

Flosstradamus

Chitown based duo Flosstradamus are the kings of the turn up. As originators within the trap genre, Flosstradamus have been pushing the sound forward since its inception; fusing electronic and rap tunes into their sets at festivals around the world. Recently the duo has moved to a new format that sees Autobot handling the responsibilities on the decks while J2K rocks the mic and gets the crowd amped up. At first glance this may seem less than ideal but the MC and DJ style is undeniably hype. If you’re looking to get wild there’s probably no better set to attend, just don’t be surprised when they turn the crowd into a mosh pit.

Cashmere Cat

Cashmere Cat shot by Hector Vasquez for FUXWITHIT.

One of the most inventive producers in electronic music, Cashmere Cat is another DJ you can’t afford to miss. The combination of the former DMC competitor’s turntablist skills with his forward thinking production and stellar song selection are like nothing you’ve ever heard. In his sets tracks are dissected live to highlight and reduce instrumentation. Instead of drop after drop, the tracks are drawn out, reworked live and slowly blended into one and other, creating truly seamless transitions. His sets take you on an audio journey with just enough hard hitting Jersey Club to keep the energy up and the crowd dancing. This is guaranteed to be one of the most unique and memorable sets of the weekend.

[soundcloud url=”https://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/123117620″ params=”color=ff5500&auto_play=false&hide_related=false&show_comments=true&show_user=true&show_reposts=false” width=”100%” height=”166″ iframe=”true” /]

ZHU

Anything that ZHU does seems to be surrounded in an air of mystique. From his genius debut, to his live sets, he always has fans gushing for more. ‘Faded’ was arguably the biggest song of 2014 and his Nightday EP was chalked full of irresistible hits. His combination of deep basslines and falsetto vocals are the perfect blend. It’s difficult to predict what ZHU will bring to his Canadian debut. Will the stage remain covered to retain his anonymity? Will he drop some unreleased music? Will his set include live vocals? There’s only one way to find out…

[soundcloud url=”https://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/138712428″ params=”color=ff5500&auto_play=false&hide_related=false&show_comments=true&show_user=true&show_reposts=false” width=”100%” height=”166″ iframe=”true” /]

There’s nothing like turning an entire island into your playground. Canada’s own Grandtheft is slated for what is destined to be a great set on Day 1 of the two day fun filled festival. Grandtheft has been heating up in the game for a few years now. With notable tracks like ‘Keep it 100’ with Keys N Krates to working with Diplo on the most recent ‘BBHMM’ remix, Grandheft has solidified himself as one of the most amazing DJ’s/producers in the game. On June 12th you can expect a stellar set from him that may even steal the show.

Flume

Looking to escape the party vibe but still want to take in some electronic music? Australian producer Flume has you covered. His sets take a more turned down approach focusing on delivering feels and packing emotion. That’s not to say he won’t slip in a banger here or there, but you’re more likely to be vibin’ out than fist pumping or jumping. Expect a smooth mix of future sounds ranging from bass to R&B and beyond.

Nas

“Nasty Nas in your area, about to cause mass hysteria”. I don’t know if any of the current hip-hop and rap fans understand this but Nas is a living legend. The don dada Mr. Nasir Jones will grace the Bestival stage in Toronto on June 12th. If you’re a hip hop head, imagine seeing Nastradamus headline day two of one of the largest festivals in Canada. Now picture the God drop his classic records from his impressive catalog. If you’re getting excited reading this, then you need to be there to witness it for yourself. I mean, it’s Nas!

Keys N Krates

Easily one of the most interesting and exciting live acts in electronic music, Key N Krates are another hometown favourite who have achieved global success. The 3 man group consists of David Matisse (Synth/Keyboard), Adam Tune (Drums), and Jr. Flo (DJ/Turtablist). The trio are renowned for their “weird rap beats” that combine infectious loops with hard hitting drums and irresistible melodies. Their live shows are a mixture of their own productions with a number of well known trap, rap and electronic tunes reworked live. Most notable is their ‘Bittersweet Symphony’ routine which is awe inspiring. For those looking for something different than your average DJ set, but still looking to party, this is your dream come true.

Pusher is one of Toronto’s brightest new stars. The producer/DJ has been making major waves online with his future bass originals and remixes. His remix for Jack U has clocked nearly half million plays to date. As a DJ he’s been killing it in Toronto opening for some of the biggest names in the game including Thugli, Grandtheft and Cashmere Cat. His sets are a blend of dark trap, hard hitting bangers and video game inspired future bass. If you’re wondering who’s the next big thing coming out of the city, look no further.
