Making a powerful debut on the prestigious Deadbeats label, Nostalgix blesses us with her newest EP, Black Mirror. A two-track body of work containing classic and energetic house music. Taking her talents and vision to a whole new array of audiences. But this isn’t her first major stepping stone in the industry. Going through her discography, she’s been making quite an impact. From releases on UKF, Night Bass, CONFESSION and more, she hasn’t stopped once at achieving her major goals. Continuing to amaze and impress her audience and colleagues. Creating her own unique portrayal of art has given her a healthy space to experiment and find her niche. From ecstatic drums, to her impactful voice with attitude, she’s already making a memorable path towards success.

The Black Mirror EP is a funk-filled trip. Paying homage to the underground sound and its culture. But she’s not alone for this ride. Helping her out along this journey are hip-hop vocalists Wasiu and Bigredcap! Two very distinct musicians who contribute raw energy to hype up any track. Taking it to the next level. And once you combine their passions and strive, you’ll get two everlasting pieces of gold. Ready to take to the dance floors and dominate.

From nasty bass design, to addicting arrangements, Nostalgix gave all her abilities a true test of might and she does not disappoint in the slightest. Both songs hold very special characteristics and atmospheres. If you’re looking for an instant festival anthem, ‘Black Mirror’ is the track that will satisfy your cravings. And if you want to mentally travel to your small local club or warehouse on a dark and sinister night, ‘Undercover’ is the piece you’ll fall in love with. Both are truly unique and have an organic aura surrounding them. Showing that her expedition is only going to infinity and beyond. We’re excited to hear where her talents take her next! For now, go show your utmost love and support by streaming The Black Mirror EP everywhere!

It is safe to say Vancouver-based producer Nostalgix has all eyes and ears on her this year as this talented house producer has been bringing the heat since day one. If you caught her epic set on the very top of BC Place stadium during Contact Festival’s live-stream or dug deeper into her personality with our exclusive interview, you already know Nostalgix is delivering those filthy basslines and persuading vocals to convince us to keep grooving all night long. Always one step ahead in the house music scene, she’s clearly ‘The Plug’ when it comes down to showcasing her distinctive style which draws upon a twist of bass house and hip-hop influence. Now, dim the lights, turn up the speakers, and get ready for the action as we launch into the spring season with a ‘Boom’ featuring hard-hitting vocals from D’Aaron Anthony. Warning, this single is highly contagious once started.

Firing up the energy from the start, D’Aaron Anthony goes hard with his bars on this one. With a grueling melody and rhythmic drum claps continuing to build up as they flow perfectly with Anthony’s engaging presence. “Lights, Camera, Action,” and Nostalgix brings the industrial vibe and funk back into the picture to get you feeling some type of way on the dance floor. Shifting levels is easy for Nostalgix, as a distorted melody whip in and out of the track to really take it up a notch. From the experimental build-up to the drop, Nostalgix is encouraging all those around her to own the world with their confidence and always shine bright no matter what anyone says.

Consistently transforming house music one experimental beat at a time, Nostalgix has been drawing listeners in with her ability to infuse her futuristic, yet irresistibly groovy sounds alongside several of her musical influences. From teaching herself to mix in her college dorm, to making her Night Bass debut with the release of her one and only ‘OG Sins‘ EP, Nostalgix has proven that dreams do really come true when you put your heart and soul into your music. For all those who have been blessed by Nostalgix to get you feeling some type of way on the dance floor, this Vancouver-based producer undeniably lures you in with her ability to capture us with hypnotic instrumentals and a side of bass house-flair.

Whether bringing out the funk with releases such as ‘Spice Girl‘ or going deep down into the realms of house music with ‘Mind Tricks,‘ the beauty of Nostaglix is how she is driven to push her ever-evolving sound forward while simultaneously reflecting upon pop and hip-hop influences growing up. Being fully transparent in the music industry is not always easy, but Nostalgix continues to instill confidence in her listeners by encouraging them to always be the true version of themselves. Delivering the message to be proud of who you are no matter what circumstances may arise, Nostalgix has teamed up with AC Slater, Way, and Makla to bring her vision to life with the release of her Act Out EP out on Night Bass.

Flowing directly into a house backdrop alongside Nostalgix’s hard-hitting vocals, the power of lead single ‘Act Out’ is translated flawlessly through the vocals. Expressing the empowerment you feel when truly doing things for yourself, Nostalgix’s classic vocals and subtle hip-hop rhythms lead into a fury of shifting percussions and a choppy G-house inspired beat. Clearly not holding back when it comes to initiating a solid groove infused with sonic elements and enticing basslines, Nostalgix delivers a strong message to her listeners while pushing all limits to go deep on the bass with this one.

With the four-track project dropping today, we have the pleasure of premiering the lead single ‘Act Out’ and digging deeper behind the project with Nostalgix below.

Initiating a hip-hop and bass house-infused vibe with the release of ‘Act Out,’ can you share the initial idea behind this single? How was the process of creating this single?

When I started writing ‘Act Out,’ I wanted to create something with a bass house and hip hop influence through my style of production and vocals. I’ve always been a big fan of the G-House genre so I wanted to put my own twist on it, but also do the vocals on the record. I got in the studio and produced the instrumental, then I started freestyling about what I was feeling and going through at the time, which led me to the idea of ‘Act Out.’

I’ve always been a kind person who likes to make people happy, and during this time I’d reached a point where I’d realized that it’s just not possible to make everyone happy. So I started focusing on myself, what I want, and who I am. Because of that, this song has a very special meaning to me. To me, ‘Act Out’ is about being the most courageous version of yourself. It’s having the courage to be who you are exactly as you are. People will always have things to say about you, and to me, this song is about standing your ground and saying “this is who I am, and I love every bit of it.”

Music is about letting loose and embracing a side of yourself you didn’t even know existed, so I always encourage people to be out there and fully themselves.

After catching you at several shows in Vancouver, you definitely encourage your audience to let loose and be themselves which many respect about you. When playing your live-sets, what is your initial takeaway for your fans when experiencing your music?

Thank you, I appreciate that! With my shows, I always want to create an atmosphere where everyone feels safe to be themselves and have as much fun as possible haha! Music is about letting loose and embracing a side of yourself you didn’t even know existed, so I always encourage people to be out there and fully themselves.

To any up and coming producers, my best advice is to put in the work. It takes time and effort to become good at anything, and good music takes time. You can do it!!

From being in the crowd at your very first shows to now throwing down live-sets at Contact Music Festival and Celebrities Nightclub. How does it feel? If you were to share any advice for up and coming producers, what would it be?

It’s a surreal feeling that I got to make my passion into my life. I’m always gonna be a fan first at heart, but being able to create those experiences for other people is so special, there’s nothing like it. To any up and coming producers, my best advice is to put in the work. It takes time and effort to become good at anything, and good music takes time. You can do it!!

With the new year around the corner, is there anything else you are looking forward to in 2020?

It’s been a crazy year! I’m very excited for my Act Out EP, I’ve been working on ideas and projects related to the EP since the Spring, I’m ecstatic to bring all of that to life. I’m also working on a few different live streams as well as my first music video. There’s so much to look forward to!

Kicking things off is Nostalgix, who is fresh off her OG Sins EP and is looking to ride her unparalleled momentum into 2020. ‘Mind Tricks’ is late-night anthem that pairs Way’s catchy vocals with a wobbly bassline that is as gnarly as it is groovy. ‘Dimension’ from Inkline follows, where a darker undertone is present throughout the UK garage-leaning track, without omitting a natural, danceable feel. Newcomer Drinks On Me comes next with ‘Planes,’ an infectious bop that provides a breath of fresh air to the compilation through its softer melodies and rhythmic nature. Finally, Honey & Badger and Makla cap things off with a bass house belter in a display of undeniable chemistry.

Releasing your debut EP on a highly-respected label such as Night Bass is no minor feat. However, for an artist such as Nostalgix, it is just another achievement to add to her already impressive set of releases. In the past six months, the Vancouver-based producer has taken the house music scene by storm, with signings on taste-making imprints such as Confession, Do Not Duplicate Recordings and Uprise. With her first full-length project titled OG Sins out now, Nostalgix looks to keep this blazing momentum alive.

Through three hefty, club-ready tracks, Nostalgix proves that she is not messing around. ‘Heist’ is a bumping G-house banger that uses crisp vocal samples and rhythmic percussion to set the mood, before club-ready bass carries the track forward with an unparalleled swagger. ‘Bad For Me’ continues along this theme, with faster percussion in the introduction giving the track a shuffle-ready vibe, before squeaky yet metallic leads shine throughout the drops. In the project’s final, title track, Nostalgix lends her own vocals to her dominant production to once again drive a G-house feel, as punchy bass and an innate danceable essence is curated throughout ‘Og Sins.’
