Parisian producer Sebjin is one of my favourite finds of 2019. His style is a fusion of elegant audio tapestries, cartoonish energy, future bounce, and just enough grittiness. His INSERT TRENDY WORD HERE project took us back to SoundCloud’s golden era, while ‘Anima’ and ‘takemetothetop’ show us what’s to come from the underground. With his future looking brighter everyday, we felt it was due time to have Sebjin drop in for a guest mix and interview. The mix spans a variety of sounds and facets; kicking off with a laid-back lounge vibe and gradually getting more bangin’. As for the interview, we learned about his must see spots in Paris, how to create that special bounce, his creative fuel and more. Dive in below.
If you were having a friend visit Paris for the first time, what are the 3 places you would take them and why?
So this one is interesting. I’m actually pretty simple so I’ll probably make him/her visit places that I like. There’s this neighborhood named “Le Marais” where I love to hang out because it is really varied. You can find a lot of stuff there. Vintage shops, high-end fashion stores, good bars, and restaurants and it’s a pretty good area to just chill and have a good time so I think that this is the perfect combination.
I would also go to “Opera” because it is a really beautiful place and there’s a lot of things and do. Also, there are some of my favorites restaurants over there (I’m a huge Japanese food lover by the way.)
And the third place, I would probably say “Quai D’austerlitz” because this is a place where there’s a lot of clubs and rooftops and it is near to the Bibliothèque François Mitterand, a famous library here in Paris and it is a place that I particularly like.
What do you do when you’re not making music?
I used to play video games like a lot before making music! Now, I kind of reduced the time that I spend on video games to focus on my music. But, I love to watch movies and series also “animes”.
I’m a big fashion lover! This is definitely my second passion. So, I love to watch clothes and look after new brands and new designers. This is a huge inspiration for me.
Your last project was a collection of remixes and edits. Do you have plans to drop more originals for the remainder of the year?
Yes! I was working on a project but I decided to divide this into two. So I’ll drop something by the end of the year. I’m also in a process of reducing my amount of remixes to expend my music on every music platforms and create some original content.

Do you have any tips for producers looking to bring the bounce to their tracks?
Hahaha, that’s a good one! To be honest this is something that I always look for when I produce. The thing is to not quantities everything at “1:00:00” you got to play with the swing and delay your drums and melodic elements to improve the bounce and your groove!
Also it is all about how you move your neck when you listen to the final product. If the bounce is good your head will not move every time that the metronome is hitting but every two times!
What feeds your creativity or inspires your work?
The main elements that feeding my creativity are movies, series, animés, video games, but also people and other artists. I would say some elements in my life as well because my music is also a way to express myself so there are some messages in every track that I create.

When we last spoke you said you had a surprise prepared for the end of 2019. Can you tell us anymore details about this?
It is kinda linked with what I said earlier about my need to drop some original content by the end of the year. So yeah I’m working on a project that should drop before the end of the year I hope that you will all love it!
And I’m also working on something else at the same time but I can’t tell you more about this one!
You just dropped an incredible collab with capshun. Do you have more collabs lined up for the near future? Is it difficult to collaborate with an artist that on the other side of the world?
Thank you! a collab with cvrbi, archr, and ledim named ‘Take Me To The Top’ just dropped a few days ago! I got some other upcoming collabs with beatmakers, even rappers so I’ll keep you in touch when they will be released!
What are your goals for 2020?
I didn’t start to think about every goal that I want to reach! But working on my album is one of them (I didn’t want to say it but you forced me to!) Expand my community and also help more people to get heard. Also, some personal goals and scores that I want to reach for next year on streaming platforms!
What should we expect from the mix? What was your vision when putting it together?
I wanted to put some recent releases from people that I’m vibing with and also people that deserve to be heard! This is a mix of music that I recently discovered and music that I like. There’s a surprise in it by the way! Hope you will enjoy it!
