Our man Hydraulix is back again this week for our next guest mix installment! After dropping his NERVES EP on Wakaan earlier this year, the versatile Australian producer has been riding a wave of successful self-releases, including our previously-featured ‘duCk huNT‘ and the speaker-wrecking banger ‘HAWT‘ with Oski. Most recently, his track ‘I Spit Da Fire‘ was released on We Are Deadbeats Vol. 6.

Given his output since the year began, I’m not sure when the man sleeps, but whatever beauty sleep he manages is clearly paying off. We can’t wait to hear what the rest of year brings from this wicked talented producer, so until then, let’s get into the guest mix and hear what he has to say!

First off, it’s good to have you in the spotlight here at FUXWITHIT again! How has your year been going thus far?

Thanks for having me back. Always love catching up with you guys. So far so good. I’ve been doing a lot of self-releases which I’ve been loving very freeing the whole process.

What should our listeners expect to hear in this guest mix?

Lots of unreleased. I’ve got it stacked with unreleased from myself and a bunch of friends. And defs expect to hear a lot of deeper type tunes. I feel like the mix is a good indication of the direction I’m trying to head moving forward.

I’d say you’re one of many artists we touch on here who really can’t be pigeon-holed into a single genre given the variety of your discography. That said, who are your biggest musical influences?

I’m really so all over the place with where I get my inspiration from. Few people who always get me excited and eager to hear new music are Flume, Labrinth, Skrillex, TroyBoi, and Billie Eilish funnily enough.

Your most recent single with Oski, ‘HAWT,’ seems to have been a big hit now that it’s been played out by the likes of Four Tet, Excision, Zeds Dead, Liquid Stranger, etc. How does it feel to have such a stellar response to your track?

Thanks so much for the kind words. We are both stoked with the response to ‘HAWT.’ It’s obviously super rewarding to have people you look up to appreciate your music. I fully self-released ‘HAWT’ and to get arguably a bigger response than most tunes is super fulfilling.

Is it safe to say a full Hydroski EP is indeed happening?

It’s happening. We’ve got all the tracks there it’s just getting it all finished up. We’ve both been pretty busy recently, I just moved state and Oski has been working his ass off and hasn’t really had time to sit down. But it’s all there and well underway. The first track in the mix is actually one of the new tunes.

At the moment I’m just trying to write the best music I can and make it all cohesive together. I feel like I’m finally setting up and bringing people into the Hydraulix world and I’m super excited about what that will bring.

What’s next for you as a producer? Any big dreams you can share with us?

Man honestly at the moment I’m just trying to write the best music I can and make it all cohesive together. I feel like I’m finally setting up and bringing people into the Hydraulix world and I’m super excited about what that will bring.

If you had the opportunity to perform anywhere in the world for one night, where would it be?

I’ve got so many bucket list venues I’d love to play. Red Rocks is one for sure. But some other spots include Brooklyn Mirage, Palladium, and would die if I ever played EDC Vegas.

Anything particular remaining in 2024 that you’re super excited for?

I’ve actually just been wrapping a track with Tempa T that I’m super excited for and have a whole bunch of collabs with people I really I look up to. I don’t know if it’ll all come out in 2024 but some of the new music is gonna do some damage!

When you’re not making music, where does your free time go?

I’m such a homebody. I really don’t do much that exciting. I spend a lot of my free time watching NRL (Rugby league) and playing fantasy NRL with friends and usually taking my dog for walks and to the beach. I also love sewing and making clothes. I haven’t been doing that enough recently but now that I’m set up in my new spot I’m definitely gonna get back into it.

I think the biggest thing is consistency and perseverance. Sometimes it feels like your music falls on deaf ears but it’s important to just keep going. You never know what will hit and what won’t. But don’t get discouraged when stuff doesn’t.

Do you have any words of encouragement for aspiring producers out there?

I’m a big supporter of up-and-comers. It feels like some of the new people coming through are crazy talented. I think the biggest thing is consistency and perseverance. Sometimes it feels like your music falls on deaf ears but it’s important to just keep going. You never know what will hit and what won’t. But don’t get discouraged when stuff doesn’t. Also… Don’t compare yourself to others. It’s a slippery slope.

Bonus question: How does Australia put out so much good music? Seriously.

Hahaha, I wish I had the answer for this. We really do pump them out over here. I’m just grateful to be part of the community here in Aus. I find it’s a very supportive and nurturing group of producers from Aus.

Underrated might be the wrong word to use to describe Oski, but perhaps under-appreciated rings truer. For over a decade, the Australian producer has been at the forefront of bass music, continuously evolving his sound one step ahead of the masses. Despite this, it seems as though his name never comes up in conversations about the best innovators in the scene, and that’s a shame. Whether it’s dubstep, trap, drum and bass, or anything in between, Oski can do it, and do it well. Creativity flows through the producer’s veins, as each new release showcases a unique take on whatever genre that he decides to tackle under the broad bass umbrella.

One of Oski’s big breaks came in the form of the Kid Chrome EP released on Quality Goods Records way back in 2016, and the talented artist has found his way back on the label at regular intervals since then. His latest release, ‘La La Land,’ marked yet another incredible cut on the imprint, as he demonstrated his ability to weave minimal bass stabs with snappy vocal snippets to create a mesmerizing piece.

Today, we have the pleasure of exclusively premiering ‘Lick,’ the second track from the dual-single on QGR. In Oski’s words, “‘Lick’ started with the drums and eventually turned into a full blown piece revolving around the swung percussion, hence the name.” In similar fashion to ‘La La Land,’ Oski uses crisp vocal cuts to drive the emotion of the track, but ‘Lick’ takes the bass to another level. Boasting an old-school essence with modern flair, ‘Lick’ is quick to the punch and tailored for a high-energy set. Oski layers nostalgic wubs over meticulous percussion to create a beautiful contrast between the old and the new, and doing so with his usual quality production makes ‘Lick’ yet another standout among his extensive discography. Check it out below and stay tuned for its official release tomorrow.

It’s a mystery why Oski isn’t headlining festivals or doing shows around the world. The talented Sydney-based artist has been a recurring force in the bass scene for almost a decade now, and has repeatedly evolved his sound into exciting, untapped territories. In a scene that is often saturated with a lot of the same, Oski consistently pushes the boundaries of a wide variety of genres, and is at the forefront of innovation time and time again. This year alone, the Australian artist has released the action-packed DIABOLICAL EP on Deadbeats, the genre-defying Kid Colossus EP on Quality Goods Records, and a mind-melting collaboration with Luca Lush. Quality simply flows through Oski’s veins.

Continuing upon this theme, Oski now returns to Deadbeats with the two-track Enigma EP, further showcasing his ability to create dancefloor-ready heaters. The title track of the project sees the producer unleash his inner dubstep guru, pairing some of his quintessential bass sounds with a riddim-leaning swagger that carries the piece forward.

While versatility is Oski’s strong suit, it’s surprising that the artist had never release a house track prior to this project. ‘Gainful Employment’ puts an end to that, though, and boy did he ever deliver. With a bass house groove riddled with snappy percussion and crisp sound design in the first half, and a cheeky halftime switch-up in the second half, Oski demonstrates he can compete with the best in yet another genre.

Both tracks from Enigma are sure to send crowds into a frenzy for their own respective reasons. Don’t miss the project below.

Oski is synonymous with versatility and uniqueness. No matter the genre the Sydney-based artist decides to tackle, he executes at an elite level, and landing releases on all the biggest labels in the bass music scene such as Never Say Die, Disciple, Deadbeats, and many more is all the proof one needs. Carrying a distinct signature in his production yet never stagnating on a specific sound is what makes Oski an exceptional artist, with this diversity being on full display in his recent collaboration with Hydraulix as well as his three-track ANTAGONISTA EP.

Now, Oski returns to a label that he has called home many times, namely Quality Good Records, with a single titled ‘Shimmer’ that contributes nicely to the impressive catalog of the Quality Treats series. Every time Oski and Quality Goods unite, one can expect something special, and ‘Shimmer’ is no exception. Oski balances dubstep, trap and future bass influences cohesively to create a track that’s both emotional and intense, using powerful vocals in the introduction to lure you in before unleashing menacing, rhythmic bass in the drops. Bouncy and energetic, ‘Shimmer’ is perfectly suited for both headphones and the mainstage, attesting to Oski’s undeniable prowess as an artist.

Speaking about the track, Oski states “I’ve been locked down inside my house for 6 months and have been going insane so I wrote this music to help a little bit.” While we’re not stoked about the recurring quarantines from the last eighteen months, we are stoked about the incredible music that was birthed from these troubling times. Don’t miss ‘Shimmer’ below.

When thinking of the term champion sound names such as RL Grime, Zeds Dead or UZ may be some names that come to mind. As for us being Champions of the Underground, it’s names such as thook, FAIRSMOOTH and swrly to give some examples. However, there exists a realm of artists that bridge the gap between legendary and underground. In this instance specifically, we are speaking of Australia’s finest, Oski. Returning to the scene with a massive three track EP – ANTAGONISTA is out now via DeadBeats Records.

The genre-splitting wizard was seen as one of the first EP releases on the trap imprint Quality Goods Records before driving into a hefty bass lane with two Disciple Records EPs. Oski is back with an amalgamation of these sounds as each of the three tracks on ANTAGONISTA fit into a different genre. Initiating the EP is ‘Fidget’ where he concocts an infectious trap anthem that is assured to take over festival floors upon their return. After receiving the fresh breath of air hearing Oski make trap, ‘Vexed’ is a clean transition into a drum and bass expedition. This track guides listeners carefully into the exhilarating energy of DnB with vocals to accommodate the experience. The EP’s finale is a collaboration with fellow Sydney native Leotrix. ‘Bump N Bang’ is equal parts Oski as it is Leotrix. Subsequently we hear an invasion of trap sounds paired with a heavy bass driven melody. Trap, dubstep or possibly riddim? You listen and decide for yourself on that one. Listen to ANTAGONISTA in full below out now via DeadBeats Records.

What do you get when you pair the trap king (UZ) with one of QGR‘s finest artists (Oski)? An exceptional two track EP entitled Freezer. In recent time Oski has been exploring a variety of sounds, leaning heavier to the dubstep and bass side, it’s only right that it would take the don UZ to bring him back to the trap and it sounds so good.

Kicking off the project is the title track with a dizzying array of sounds that are sure to leave you feeling faded. The trippy synth evolves from the lasers before dropping into some filthy bass. The back half traps things out further with a beating down the block swagger that descends into certified madness. Stripped down, yet innovative this assured to be on repeat. ‘Bass Tang’ packs a West coast energy inspired by its LA birthplace. The minimal initial drop is a testament to UZ’s renowned less is more approach, packing a furious punch without doing too much. Distorted vocals lead into a retooled drop anchored by a “bounce” vocal and a hard-hitting section that’s ripe with mystique. The track closes out with vocal cuts as UZ leverages with turntablist roots for a strong finale.

Freezer EP possesses a classic trap sensibility while still pushing the boundaries of the genre. The expectations for an UZ x Oski EP couldn’t be higher but the two deliver exactly as expected. Stream below and grab it via Quality Goods Records.

Ohio-based Sytrux has been making massive trap flips for well over a year now, honing his skills to the nth degree. His latest target is the Sydney, Australia based Oski and his destructive heater ‘Fuccapop,’ a crowd favorite from the year. Where the original had a notable dubstep-heavy lean in terms of overall feel, Sytrux emphasizes destructive trap stylings much more so. The original aggression is readily apparent and built upon quite successfully, a consistent aesthetic present throughout. The first drop is hefty by itself, sporting kicks that deliciously purr and a chopped-up melody from the original that will have you doing your best impression of a windmill. The last drop is a big time slap fest, hitting even harder than the first and really going straight for the jugular. Sure to demolish any crowd graced with its presence, this could be a big time festival banger in the coming summer. For now, check out track for yourself below.

Returning to Disciple less than four months since his latest project, Oski looks to close out the year with a bang with the Destroy All Humans EP.

A four-track endeavour that sees the Australian producer exploring various genres and styles, Destroy All Humans is Oski at his finest. In the project’s title track, the talented artist takes his time to lure you in with orchestral, intergalactic soundscapes, before flipping the vibe on its head with a bass-driven drop that makes use of pristine call and response. ‘FuccaVIP’ follows and sees Oski rework his highly-infectious ‘Fuccapop’ into a piece that plays well with the original style while taking things deeper and making them darker. Next, ‘Rubber Bands’ is a guttural track that plays with robotic synths to create a headbang-inducing vibe. Capping it off with ‘Snap Ya Neck’ alongside Doctor Werewolf, the producers bring the drumstep days back to 2019 with a high-intensity heater.

Don’t miss Destroy All Humans below.

A recreant of such triumphs, Sydney’s Oski has tactfully aided the trajectory of the label through efforts such as the Kid Chrome and preceding Kid Calamity EP while maintaining the discipline to further diversify his own style with features via Never Say Die and Circus Records. The now QGR-veteran presents the optimal courier to commemorate Tokyo’s preeminent production talent Allen Mock & Herbalistek.

Minute droplets of aqueous synths, like the incessant pattering of water drops on a stone surface, present an unsuspecting introduction to ‘Okami.’ Soft digital fuzz masks the onset of warning sirens as triumphant horns and meticulous drums foreshadow an ill-omened fate. Sudden turbulence of vacillating synths plagues the track with intoxicating energy before a distorted vocal lead unleashes an apocalypse of bass.

A collaboration that truly speaks for itself, ‘Okami’ stands tribute to Quality Good’s mission for authenticity, further elevating the label into a degree of their own. Check out the track below!

With rumors of a forthcoming EP about it only seems fitting to unearth a gem from the infancy of oski’s career in an official remix of Haley Kiyoko’s ‘Girls Like Girls’, which adopts an unaccustomed impassioned chorus to build the energy of the tune to a peak before launching into an encapsulating flood of gravitating synths and textured vocal clips.

Demonstrating the diversity and capacity of his style, ‘Girls Like Girls’ presents an exceptional unexpected twist to oski’s emblematic trap sound and builds anticipation to an absolute pinnacle as we patiently await his forthcoming EP.
